Name: Hannah Spaeth

Year: 2023 (SOPHOMORE)

Hometown: Tewksbury, NJ

Majors/Minors/Fields of Interest? Why?:

Right now, I’m pursuing a double government and PCA major. For Gov: I’ve always been super interested in changing the world, and I think the best way to do that isn’t by petitioning the government; it’s by getting directly involved. As for PCA, I’m also very passionate about the arts, specifically cinema, so if I want to go to film school, I think that’d be a good call. I’m also probably minoring in history, which I believe will be helpful for the government side of my education – to work towards a better future, we need to understand our past.

Horoscope Sign:

Capricorn sun with a Scorpio moon and Leo rising babyyyy!

Favorite Television Show (and why?):

Hard call, but right now, it’s probably Always Sunny. Definitely raunchy and not for the easily offended, but so, so funny.

What sports team(s) do you cheer for? Why?:

NY Giants and NY Rangers. We live about 40 minutes out of the city & the Giants play in NJ, so why not?

What is your dream job? Why?:

Either a Senator or a Film Producer. Completely opposite directions. I love imagining what the world could be like – whether that’s a real one or a fictional one. We’ll see where that goes!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?:

Vienna, Austria. My dad did a semester abroad there when he was in college and said it absolutely changed his life. I would love to have the same experience!

What social movement(s) are you most passionate about, and why?:

I am most passionate about the Black Lives Matter and Pro-Choice movements. As a first-world country, we like to say that we’ve made unprecedented strides in civil rights – but we haven’t. I think calling attention to these social issues is extremely important, and that the most patriotic thing you can do for your country is work to improve it.

Why did you choose to attend St. Lawrence?:

Seeing the lifelong friendships both of my parents made when they went here definitely sold me. I must say, I’m not at all disappointed with the friends I’ve made here – I see them being in my life for a long, long time.

Favorite On-Campus Meal (indicate dining place)? Why?:

The Buffalo Chicken Dip at Dana. No contest. They don’t pay attention to my napkin notes though, so I’ve only had it once this year.

Favorite Off-Campus Restaurant/Eatery (and why?):

Jakes On The Water, definitely. Their Eggs Benedict are to die for & the ambiance is perfect.

What is on your must-have college packing list as a Laurentian/as a St. Lawrence student? Why?:

I always bring my lucky trunk up with me. It’s the same one my mom had in her college days and is covered with stickers from the late 80s and 90s. I think it has some good energy attached to it because my semesters up here have been amazing. It also makes great storage.

Where is your favorite place to study on campus? Why?:

The third floor of the student center is perfect! It’s always quiet and has a great view of the rest of the campus.

What is on your St. Lawrence bucket list (to-do before you graduate)? Why/who gave you this idea?:

Before I graduate, I want to ski Tuckerman’s Ravine in New Hampshire with some SLU friends. I have a lot of family members who have done it during their time here and a couple of friends who are eager to. I think it would be the biggest adrenaline rush I’ve ever had – but I definitely need to practice a little more before going.

Why did you join Her Campus at St. Law U? What are you looking forward to with HC St. Law U?:

I love the idea of being in a group that writes helpful articles for other college women. The girls in our chapter are so sweet & that solidified why I wanted to be here. That being said, I look forward to writing some articles & networking with other branches.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?:

My idea of the perfect use of free time is a rainy or snowy day where I can stay cooped up in my dorm, painting or writing while the TV plays in the background. On a sunnier day driving around to new places is the other best option.
