Every school has their own personal dictionary that is only understandable if you attended the school. These are some of the indigenous words of SLU:

  1. Dingle-noun; a word used to describe a double room, with only one single person living in it, combined to be, “Dingle”.

“Did you hear Alex’s roommate transferred and she has a dingle!? I’m so jealous!”

  1. Ticker–noun; the St. Lawrence County renowned night club that will most likely turn into undoubtedly your favorite place; also known as the Tick Tock Inn.

“Are you going to the ticker tonight?”

  1. The pub/pubber–noun; the eatery located on the bottom floor of the Sullivan Student center; a hub for socializing and enjoying a good quesadilla, omelet, and more.

“Lets hit the pub/pubber for dinner tonight.”

  1. Dilla-noun; When you just don’t have the mental capacity to write out the full word ‘quesadilla’ on the pub slip, dilla it is. A shortened word for the full term.

“I definitely am getting a dilla after practice today.”

  1. Fat Bag-noun; At any other school, it may be a crude or offensive term; at SLU, you’re your favorite drunk snack. It is a full pizza rolled up and then deep fried- also known as a pizza roll. Note: if you call and order a fat bag, they will hang up on you.

“Can someone order a pepperoni fat bag with a side of ranch?”

  1. New dorm-noun; The proper name is Kirk Douglas hall, but to SLU students, it is referred to as the ‘New Dorm’. Although the dorm has been open on campus for 5 semesters now, we believe it will keep its ‘new’ name for at least another 5.

“I want to live in the New Dorm when I’m a senior, its so nice.”

  1. Top gate-noun; The top right corner of the quad where the gate closes off the walkway; a common pick up location set for people going to or from the library or student center.

“I’ll pick you up at top gate in 5 minutes.”

  1. Noco–noun; The shortened and sweetened version of our lovely home, the North Country.

“Its -12 degrees today; typical NoCo weather.”

  1. Tree house–noun; to others, a childhood hangout; to SLU students, a personal cubicle in the library where students will sit for days during finals week trying to cram for their exams.

“One time during finals week I left my books in a tree house for 4 days straight!”

  1. Dr. Feel good –noun; A grilled cheese with chicken fingers inside. A big reason why everyone buys gym memberships when they get home.

“I’m definitely going to need a Dr. Feel good for dinner tonight.”

  1. Blues–noun: A popular destination for those over 21 on a Tuesday night; Tuesday Blues at the Hoot Owl.

“Are you guys going to blues tonight?”
