Isis Flores – What it’s Like to be an Admissions Ambassador

Meet Isis Flores! Along with being compassionate, outgoing, kind, and hardworking, Isis is also one of our student Admissions Ambassadors here at St. Lawrence!

Hometown: Tarrytown, NY

Graduation Year: 2019

Q: Can you tell us briefly what you do as an Admissions Ambassador at SLU?

A:  As an Admissions Ambassador, I give tours to prospective students, which are normally given in a one on one setting (meaning one family is paired with one Ambassador). On Visit Days or Open Houses, I give group tours and chat with interested students and their families. I also work as a Coordinator for the Overnight Program, where I pair prospective students who want to spend a night at St. Lawrence with current students here! When I’m not giving tours or doing tasks for the Overnight Program, I am writing contact letters to prospective students to tell them all about the wonderful things St. Lawrence has to offer. These are hand-written letters that are sent to students who express interest in SLU, and it promotes a more personal relationship and chain of contact for them to access during their admissions process.

Q: Why did you decide to apply?

A: I had the most amazing tour guide when I visited St. Lawrence; she was extremely influential in my decision to come to here! She was relatable, funny, and very involved on campus. I applied to be an Admissions Ambassador because I wanted to be that tour guide for other prospective students who were looking here. I wanted to show them all of the reasons that make SLU a great option for so many different people, and why these reasons made me apply Early Decision when I was going through the process myself. I want everyone to love St. Lawrence just as much as I do!

Q: What is your favorite part about working in admissions?

A: When students I have toured apply to SLU, especially when they apply Early Decision! I also love the people I work with, from the other student Ambassadors to the Admissions staff. We are a very tight-knit group and they are amazing people to work with.

Q: If you had to describe life as an Admissions Ambassador in three words, what would they be?

A: This is a hard one! I would say either “wears comfortable shoes” or “altruistic, personable, and kind.”
