How to Look Cute in the Negative Temperatures

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

The cold winter weather poses a challenge when trying to look cute but don’t worry! These tips, tricks and outfit ideas will help you to stay both stylish and warm this winter season!

Hats – Whether you are having a bad hair day, need to hide that bed head, or just looking for a little extra warmth, a hat is a great way to add a little something to your everyday outfit! There are various patterns, designs and colors to show off your unique and individual style!

Scarves – When the wind picks up and the temperatures drop, try wrapping a scarf around your outfit to elevate it to the next level. If you are like me and wear mostly neutral colors so a bright scarf can add a pop of color to your outfit! Also, if you want to reuse an outfit, simply change the scarf and voila a brand new and stylish outfit! (bonus pro tip: when you are in ODY and the air conditioning randomly kicks on use your scarf as a blanket or to hide from people you want to avoid)

Turtlenecks – Turtlenecks! (my personal favorite) This is my favorite style of sweater because it keeps your neck warm and toasty on extra cold days. They are comfortable and easy to thrown on with any outfit. They can be dressed up with a blazer or dressed down with leggings and a cute pair of sneakers. It’s the perfect staple for the winter season!!

Puffy Jackets – Every girl needs a puffy jacket for the winter season! They are so warm and feel like you are walking around in a sleeping bag but stylishly! Wear it over a turtleneck and with a scarf or under a bigger coat for super chilly days. You can be sure you won’t be getting cold in this jacket!

Boots – Boots are essential item to have in your closet as the snow falls! Whether they are short or tall, a good pair of boots can make you feel confident and ready to tackle the day ahead! Tall boots can help to keep the snow out and accentuate your legs! Short boots are perfect to slip on and run out the door! If you are looking for a little extra, try a pair of boots with a little heel to give a more professional and put together look.

Oversized Sweaters – A personal favorite of mine, oversized sweaters are a must have for the negative temperatures! They are easy to throw on over a pair of leggings or jeans and paired with high boots they make a super cute outfit! I love oversized sweaters because they are cozy and practical to wear on days when you don’t feel like dressing up. They can also be used during the warmer temperatures to throw on over a dress!

Lined Jean Jackets – If you are like me then 75% of your outfits include throwing on a jean jacket. Instead of hiding your jean jacket away for warmer days here are some way you can still pull it off while staying warm! Try layering it over either a sweatshirt or turtleneck to add an elevated style to your favorite winter outfit! You can also wear a larger jacket over your go to jean jacket to add another layer of warmth. If you go to the school where its cold most of the time (*cough cough* SLU) you may want to invest in a jean jacket with a warmer lining. Some are lined with flannel or faux shearling or have a built in sweatshirt lining.
