I don’t know about any of you, but I personally am one of those people who absolutely loves music and could listen to it 24/7 if I was able to. I like multiple types of genres and am always on the lookout for new songs. Sometimes I find it difficult to find new music on my own, but luckily Spotify has become my new best friend in that process. Maybe lots of people know about these different tricks, but I thought I’d share some ways I find new music on Spotify!

  1. Following people’s accounts. I tend to follow my sisters and my friend’s accounts because I generally have similar music taste as them. So, occasionally I’ll go to their profiles and listen to some of the recent playlists or artists they’ve listened to. Also, when you’re using Spotify on your laptop, you can also see what they’re listening to at that moment (on the right-hand column). I then simply click on what they’re playing at the time, to see if I like the song.
  2. Discover Weekly. Spotify creates a “Discover Weekly Playlist” for you personally and it changes every week. It compiles a large list of songs that it thinks you would like. Although sometimes it doesn’t always hit the spot, I generally find that I’ll like a lot of the songs they suggest. It also is a variation of the different genres you like, which I find quite nice.
  3. Recommended Songs. Similar to the Discover Weekly Playlist, at the end of every playlist you have personally made, Spotify has recommended a list of about 10 songs that are in the same genre as your playlist. I tend to find this list a bit repetitive and doesn’t’t always work out, but I still have gotten some of my music this way.
  4. The Discover page: Another way, is to look on the discover page where it has suggested new songs and artists based on previous artists you’ve listened to. So, they’ll label the category as “Because you’ve listen to… (ex. Mac Miller).
  5. Radio: When listening to a song or playlist, you can click the small circle button with three dots in the center, and pick “create radio”. It will then play songs that are similar to the song, playlist, or artist you based it off of.
  6. New releases: Every single Friday, Spotify releases new albums or singles from most artists. I tend to go through them right on Friday to find recent music that I’ll hopefully like. I generally tend to listen to only the artists I am familiar with, but occasionally I’ll take the time to try out others too.
  7. Last but not least, Spotify’s playlists: I’ve found that Spotify actually makes some pretty good playlists for whatever mood you are in. Again, go to the Browse option, then to Genres & Moods, and click whatever genre/mood you want for that time. I personally really like the RapCaviar playlist for Hip Hop/Rap. Additionally, the Christmas playlists, study playlists, and the Songs to Sing in the Shower playlist are always good choices. I have also been loving the playlist called POLLEN. This one is a mix of Hip Hop and chill music, which I like because it has multiple genres instead of simply sticking to one.

Finding new music can sometimes be difficult because it takes a bit of patience and time, but I actually really like to do it. I tend to do it before falling asleep in bed, doing my laundry, cleaning my room, or school work if I don’t need to concentrate too hard. If you like music as much as I do and find the time to use one of these ideas, I hope they help you out!!
