Five Easy (And Fun!) Ways to Make The World A Better Place

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

Have you ever been the recipient of a random act of kindness? If so, you know what it feels like for the smallest of efforts to alter your day for the better. People are more likely to be kind when they feel kindness emanating from the world around them– so why not be the start of that ripple effect? It will surely make its way back to you! Here are five easy (and fun!) ways to start making the world a better place today:

Notes

One of my favorite random acts of kindness is writing notes because it’s a fun and simple way to brighten someone’s day. There are so many ways to be creative with this, too. One day, I wrote an inspiring quote on a piece of paper and put it in a drawer in a cafe. When I came back a couple of months later, I looked in the drawer. I saw that someone had attached the note to a notebook and other people had started to write in it. It’s things like this that make you realize that the smallest of efforts can have significant effects.

Have a Care Package Ready to Go

How many times has someone asked for money or food and you have been completely unprepared to help? A great way to ensure that this doesn’t happen again is to always have a bag of essentials ready to go in your car. You can include water, granola bars, a blanket, a hat, gloves, etc. and whenever the chance arises, you can just hand over the whole bag. This is a super easy and quick way to make a big difference in someone’s life.

Offer Kind Words

This tip isn’t about compliments (although those are great!), but rather being intentional about the way you speak to others. So often, stress and anger about things like midterms or a long day of work creep their way into one’s conversations with friends and family. It is so important to be aware of this and to try to change it because it can really hurt someone. By being intentional, kind, and caring with your words, you can make someone’s day!

Pay for Someone’s Meal

Choosing a table to pay for at a restaurant or paying for the party behind you at a drive-through can change someone’s day for the better. By realizing that someone they don’t know cares about them, whoever you paid for may even be encouraged to do the same for someone in the future! Or, they may be a little kinder to everyone they encounter for the rest of the day.

Spend a Whole Day Smiling

Be the person who smiles at everyone! It makes such a difference to the people around you and will surely improve other people’s day. This is one point that definitely creates a ripple effect. In my experience, when someone smiles at me, I am much more likely to feel happier for the rest of the day and also pass it on. Although this one may be difficult with masks, I firmly believe that you can tell when someone smiles by the way their overall energy and eyes change.

See, it doesn’t have to be difficult to change the world! And these are just a few of the many ways in which you can make the world a better place. The most important thing to remember is just how powerful you, your actions, and your words are and how we all can use that power for good every moment of every day.
