DIY Valentine’s Care Package for Your Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

Whether you have a sweetheart or not, Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to show the people that you love just how much you care about them. What better way is there to make someone feel special than by giving them a care package? Plus, they’re fun to put together!

There are a few key pieces to making a great Valentine’s Day care package for your closest gal pals. You can include a card, some sort of food item, a few self-love cosmetics, a form of entertainment, and a little decoration for their room.

1.   Cards

Making a card is the most essential step. Whether you buy one or make one, it really is the content you include that matters most. However, to make a great Valentine’s Day card, you’ll need some construction paper, markers, potentially some stickers, and some humor. I’m partial to puns, so if you can find something clever that suits your friend, go for it!

Furthermore, a cute idea is to include a set of “Open when you’re feeling …” cards. The words of a close friend always mean the most and can provide so much comfort when needed most.

2.   Food

Food is the way to a girl’s heart! There are so many ways to approach sending salty and sweet snacks. Sending candy that comes in Valentine’s Day-inspired packaging is a safe approach, but if you’re feeling a little extra crafty, you can get much more adventurous with the packaging. On the simpler end of the spectrum, a clear baggy with a cute note and a pretty bow always does the trick. Another option is filling a mason jar with the person’s favorite treat or with the ultimate hot cocoa mix of chocolate powder, cinnamon, and marshmallows. However, if you want to give it a little extra flare you can do some of these:

3.   Cosmetics

Let’s face it, most of us love getting little cosmetics to pamper ourselves with. If you’re not the super crafty type, this part of the care package involves minimal creativity. Some suggestions include: chapstick, lip gloss, nail polish, exfoliators, face masks, bath bombs, perfume samplers, hand moisturizers, or some hair ties. For all of these, you can find some that suit the theme of the basket, so feel free to go crazy!

4.   Entertainment

Having a fun activity to do on Valentine’s Day is always welcomed. Depending on what your budget can afford, you can include anything from a magazine to a movie or even a coloring book. Some ways to add a special touch include: adding a little comment on the magazine’s headlines, a game to play while watching the movie, or a little note with the coloring book you send!

5.   Decore

Lastly, it’s important to include some sort of memorabilia to remind your friends that they are cared for. One easy way is to decorate a frame and place your favorite picture inside. Another option is to buy some clothespins, string, and print a few pictures out. Write some little sayings or words of inspiration on the clothespins, and then use them to attach the photos to the string. This is a cute decoration that your friend can hang in their room, and every time they see it they will be reminded of the loving friendship that you share with them!

6.   The Final Step: Packaging

Presentation is key to complete your care package. Decorating the inside of the box with stickers, simple drawings, or glitter really brings it to the next level! If you’re not sending the package, look for a cute bucket or basket instead. And remember, tissue paper is your friend, and can help bring everything together. Spread some love this February 14th!! Happy crafting xx
