Best and Worst Mascaras

If you’re like me, having a reliable mascara in your makeup collection is essential. I am always excited to try new mascaras from different brands and stores, attempting to discover the perfect mascara for me. From my experimental purchases, I have found some of my favorite mascaras, as well as ones that did not meet my standards.

Drugstore Favorites:

Makeup can get very expensive, but don’t fret! Some drugstore mascaras are even better than those sold in high end cosmetic shops. Here are my most beloved mascaras that you can find at just about any pharmacy.

  1. Maybelline Great Lash Lots of Lashes Washable Mascara,Very Black

  • My mom has always been a tried and true Great Last girl. I recognized this product from my mom’s cosmetic bag, so I decided to finally try it for myself. I now understand why she has remained loyal to this product for so many years! This mascara does a great job in avoiding clumps while making your lashes look full and voluminous. Maybelline has been producing versions of these mascaras for years, and they still remain popular today! Go get yourself a bottle!

  1. L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara,200 Blackest Black

  • I purchased this mascara one day on a whim when I desperately required a new mascara. After searching the endless display of mascaras, I was attracted to this one because of its pretty ballet pink bottle and the title’s inclusion of the word voluminous. The product holds true to its name and definitely extends your lashes and gives the look of full lashes. The only downside to this product is that it can get clumpy, but if you just stick to one or two light coats, you should avoid this issue and achieve the desired look of long, beautiful lashes!

  1. Maybelline Volum' Express The Rocket Washable Mascara,Very Black

  • I was a religious user of this mascara for many years in high school. I remember when this product was first released, it was all the rave. This is an overall amazing mascara that does not clump at all and is really good at curling lashes and making them appear very long and full. I usually try and buy mascaras that I have never used before, but sometimes I cannot resist going back to this one. If you haven’t tried it yet, you have to purchase it ASAP!

  1. CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara

  • This was probably the very first mascara I ever bought for myself and was a favorite of mine in middle school when I first started wearing makeup. This product is very light and is perfect for natural glam. I recommend this mascara for those who don’t necessarily want their eyelashes to look dramatic and are aiming for a more subtle, everyday look. I also really liked getting this mascara in the brown shade to make my eyes look even more delicate and soft.

High-End Favorites:

Sometimes I am willing to invest in my makeup, and I am usually especially willing to spend a little extra when it comes to mascara, considering it is a crucial aspect in my everyday makeup routine. Here are a few of my most beloved mascara products that you can find at stores such as Sephora, Ulta, etc.

  1. Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara

  • This is probably hands down my favorite mascara of all time. I have repurchased this product over and over again; I am addicted! This product does everything for me that I could ever want in a mascara: it lifts, curls, avoids clumps, and gives the appearance of full, voluminous lashes. Not only is it amazing, but the packaging is absolutely adorable, mimicking the look of a pink hair curler. So cute!

  1. Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara

  • This is yet another unbelievable Benefit mascara. I would probably classify this as my second favorite mascara. I really do love this product as well, I just feel that Roller Lash is just another step up. I still recommend trying both and seeing which one works best for you!

  1. Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara/Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes Waterproof Mascara

  • This is another notable mascara that I grown to like overtime. I have tried both the regular and waterproof versions and have enjoyed using both. Both are very volumizing and have a wand that coats all of your lashes with a thick, black layer that creates the look of big and full lashes.

  1. Sephora Collection LashCraft Big Volume Mascara

  • This is a more recent favorite that I just started using. I received this mascara in a subscription box that is sent to me monthly. I had never tried a Sephora product before, but from my experience with this mascara, I am interested in trying more. I really love this mascara because it feels so lightweight that I often forget I am wearing anything on my lashes at all! Despite feeling like my lashes are bare, the LashCraft Big Volume Mascara makes my lashes appear long and curly and does not cause any clumps, creating a super natural eye look. I highly recommend trying this for yourself!

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

  • The only product that comes to mind when trying to think of mascaras that I really disliked in the past is Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. However, a lot of my friends are obsessed with this product and use it all the time. That being said, everyone’s lashes react to products differently, but for me, this mascara made my lashes too clumpy, weighed them down, and made them droopy. But, my reaction should not deter you from trying it yourself! It could even become your favorite mascara!
