Rihanna Set to Come Back with an Iconic Super Bowl Halftime Show

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. John's chapter.

The moment we’ve all been yearning for is upon us. On February 12, 2023, an icon returns to the stage for the performance of a lifetime. At halftime of the fifty-seventh Superbowl, Rihanna will take center stage at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, and give The Navy precisely what they’ve been asking for.

Although she has not been releasing music like she once was, she didn’t go completely off the grid as people think. In her break, she has created multiple lucrative businesses – that are thriving, might I add. In 2017, a year after the release of her album “Anti,” she started her makeup/skincare brand, Fenty Beauty. Two years following “Fenty Beauty’s” c release, Rihanna launched her lingerie line, SavageXFenty. In this period, she became a mom to a baby boy and was also announced as a billionaire by Forbes. It’s safe to say music isn’t her only form of revenue, and one could suspect she doesn’t want that narrative to be pushed.

Performing at the Superbowl is an iconic way to step back into the music realm. The Navy could not be more excited about this news. When the artist simply posted a photo of her holding a football, her fans knew immediately what was happening. Of course, the inevitable occurred; fans began to speculate and wonder if this meant she would be coming back to music after her performance. OR, if it was possible to drop an album before the performance.

When asked by a TMZ reporter in passing how she felt about performing again, Rihanna stated she was “nervous but excited.” As usual, this fed the hater’s doubts that she may have lost it since her last performance back in 2018. What I say to that is; they should take a look at her MTV VMA show when she accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. I am positive she will not disappoint and will deliver precisely what the fans want to see.

As we all know, Rihanna is not just a singer, dancer, artist, entrepreneur… the list could go on and on, but she’s an all-around entertainer. With her years of experience and extensive discography, I’m positive we will be in for a treat when tuned in to Super Bowl Sunday. In classic Rihanna fashion, we’ll most likely get the classics mixed in with a few oldies, sprinkled in with a few to pay homage to her hometown, Saint Michael, Barbados. Like everything else she does, I suspect all social media platforms to be overwhelmed with RiRi content after this performance.
