Pose really put the Club in Flo’s newest album, Therapy at the Club. Flo is a UK-based R&B girl group composed of Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma and Renee Downer. The group’s sophomore album was released on Aug. seventh. The album is themed around a woman going to the club to get over a recent breakup.
The tenth track on the album has been getting wacked all over social media. It’s certainly a jarring first listen. The girls’ accents are very strong, which does make it stand out in comparison to the other songs on the album. There are a lot of sound effects, which stopped me on my first listen. (Whose idea was it to put the FAAHH sound effect after the Juicy J verse??) However, I will be coming to its defense. I didn’t get it the first time, but the third time is when I started to see this song for what it is.
When you sing Pose, you know who you are and that you mean business. No one, not even your ex, can tell you otherwise. Lyrics such as “Eyes on me like Click Click” and “On my tippy toes cause I’m top tier” boost my confidence. The song doesn’t present itself as a serious song, so why not have some fun with it? I mean, it starts off with a random person saying “Run Forest Run.”
Invite some of your friends to party and see who has the worst British accent. This album represents the range of emotions people feel at the club. Some people go to the club to get over their ex and others head straight to the dance floor. Pose wants you to laugh and have fun.
