Getting Ready for ACL Fest: My Inbox Is Full, My Suitcase Isn’t

Preparing for Austin City Limits Music Festival has taught me that I can coordinate artist interviews, research a lineup, and still be defeated by a shirt. My inbox has become a scheduling office, two planned tops don’t fit, and my suitcase remains empty even though I leave in less than a week. Somehow, this counts as getting ready.

This October, I’m covering ACL Weekend Two for Her Campus at St. John’s University as credentialed media. As someone working toward a career creating content for artists and touring, I’m excited to experience the festival as a writer, content creator, and fan.

I’m heading to Austin from October 7 through October 13. Surprisingly, extending my trip helped me save money, so I’m spending nearly a week in the yeehaw state shortly before my birthday. Financial strategy or an excuse to explore Austin? I’m accepting both explanations.

Booking my hotel through Crewfare came with a massive discount, which my budget deeply appreciated. When I encountered technical issues, their representatives were incredibly helpful in getting everything sorted out. Festival preparation involves enough moving pieces, so having someone help untangle the booking process made a difference.

My must-see list includes Bella Kay, Young Miko, Sienna Spiro, Labrinth, Leon Thomas, Charli xcx, Lola Young, and Lorde. Getting close for Bella and Young Miko is especially important to me. Unfortunately, interviews and walks between stages take time. Manifesting the ability to teleport before Friday.

Between performances, I’m planning artist conversations in the Press Lounge for my interview series, Offstage Confessions. I’m listening to their music, researching their stories, and developing questions that leave room for personality. I want to hear about the excitement, preparation, and moments audiences don’t necessarily see. I’ve also been approved to film interviews there, bringing those conversations into social content alongside my written coverage. Everyone, please keep my iPhone 15 in your thoughts and prayers.

Now, the fits. Friday’s vision is a black-and-white “Swag Princess” tee, black baggy jeans, and accessories inspired by a Bella Kay look with a Charli xcx twist. The shirt had other plans. I’m considering a distressed back for extra room and some Charli-inspired energy. Let’s just hope the finished product matches the vision in my head.

Saturday’s green babydoll top and light-wash baggy jorts were supposed to be an easy pairing. Getting the top on suggests otherwise. I’m considering alternatives because I want to enjoy Young Miko without negotiating with a seam while still looking cute. What if she notices me in the crowd and I get to be the “Sin Pausa” girl? I need to dress for the possibility.

Sunday’s vision is a DIY shirt using magazine images and a tape-transfer collage technique I’ve never even seen done before, paired with dark-blue low-rise jeans. I’m excited to wear something I made. First, I just need to figure out how to make it.

Beyond outfits, I’m organizing transportation, travel, and school responsibilities. Comfortable shoes, interview notes, and portable charging are priorities. My phone is ALWAYS dying, and this weekend it needs to lock in.

I’m leaving room for unexpected music discoveries, too. For now, my checklist includes interviews, unfinished outfits, and anticipation. The inbox is full. The suitcase will get packed eventually. I just need to stay sane.

See you guys in the park.
