5 of My Favorite Post-Valentine’s Day Romantic Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. John's chapter.

Grab a box of your favorite chocolates, a warm blanket, and get cozy, because whether you spent Valentine’s day with that special someone, had a Galentines day, or treated yourself, these romance movies are perfect to watch this month if you have those post-Valentines Day feels.

  1. 50 First Dates

Finishing a movie and wanting more immediately after is how I felt after watching 50 First Dates. Lucy meets Henry and they find each other delightful; but the next day, and the day after that, Lucy forgets what occurred the day before. Watching Drew Barrymore who plays Lucy, and Adam Sandler who plays Henry learn/choose to fall for each other over and over again each day is as funny, and romantic as one may imagine. The strange circumstances and out of pocket comedic commentary make 50 First Dates one of my favorites, and worth the watch. I have a feeling you’ll enjoy it just as much as I did.

  1. My Girl

I get nostalgic when watching My Girl, a trilogy where we watch protagonist Vada’s understanding of love bloom. The coming of age story takes me back to when I was 11, like Vada, navigating how to deal with childhood bullies, first loves, and loss. Separating this story from so many is that Vada is growing up in a funeral parlor with her father, the owner. Within the first 2 minutes you’ll know you are in for a laugh. Everyone should watch this movie at least once. Be sure that along with chocolates, you have a box of tissues handy.

  1. Me Before You

Sometimes a good cry is needed, and this heartbreaking story about unexpected love between two people will guarantee one. Me Before You left me torn. Falling in love amid an incurable diagnosis is a common storyline but in my opinion, nobody has done it like director, Thea Sharrock. This is a must watch, but full disclosure: the ending will leave you in tears.

  1. Brown Sugar

In this movie, a love for hip-hop brings childhood friends closer in adulthood, whilst commitment to others causes them to deny what they truly feel for one another, love. Brown Sugar beautifully blends love and music. It is truly one of those movies where you forget that people are acting. As someone who loves Black love and Hip-hop, I find myself rewatching Brown Sugar from time to time. I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Life As We Know It

Holly and Messer, who share best friends, never thought they’d tolerate one another again after a dreadful first date. But, when an unexpected tragedy occurs, they become responsible for caring for their god-daughter, Sophie. This story of enemies to friends and romance and family will make you laugh and give you all the feels.
