The 5 Best Beauty Looks from the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Edward's chapter.
The styles and beauty looks on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards never disappoint. The celebrities take this night to try out all beauty and outfits trends. Sometimes, the result can be a bit disastrous, but this year’s beauty risks paid off! Check out and steal the ideas from these fabulous ladies who truly had the best beauty looks of the night.

Best Lips: Rita Ora

Rita stunned on the red carpet wearing, well, red everything–but it worked! Red lipstick will never go out of style; it’s timeless elegance has been attracting attention for years. Of course, Rita will be attracting all sorts of attention on the big screen come Valentine’s Day 2015 in the anticipated hit movie “Fifty Shades of Grey,” but you don’t have to wait until then to recreate this look. All you need is MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Russian Red ($16.00 at MAC Cosmetics). This bold color is sure to get you noticed this fall!

Best Updo: Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev’s ombre locks looked simple yet refined at this year’s award show. This effortless look is super easy to recreate at home. Start by spraying Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray ($5.99 at Ulta) through damp hair and blow dry. Then back comb hair on the top of your head into a slight poof. Gather all your hair in a high ponytale, then secure with an elastic. To hide the elastic, grab a small section of hair and wrap it around the ponytail, then secure with a bobby pin or two. How easy was that?! It’s the perfect look to add to your go-to hairstyles this fall.

Best Curls: Lorde

This hairdo screams just-rolled-out-of-bed sexy, and it’s really simple to recreate. Before going to bed, loosely braid damp hair and secure with an elastic. The next morning, simply remove the elastic and gently finger-comb through hair using a little bit of Not Your Mother’s Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream ($5.99 at Ulta) to add more volume. To make your curls last, spray hair with Not Your Mother’s She’s a Tease Volumizing Hairspray ($5.99 at Ulta).

Best Lashes: Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande’s career is off to a fiery start. Her tour for her second album “My Everything” kicks off next year, and she recently sang the national anthem for the opening game of the NFL season. But that’s not what got people talking after her appearance at the VMAs, it was her eyelashes! To recreate the look, use Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara ($25.00 at Sephora), and your lashes are going to be fabulously long!

Best Liner: Taylor Swift

We gotta hand it to the girl: she knows how to rock bold and bright makeup trends, especially her retro bright blue eyeliner. Go ahead–shake off all those players, haters, heart-breakers, and fakers and get this look at home. To achieve this look, first apply a light coat of blue eyeshadow, then use a black pencil to line your top and bottom lids. Go over the black lining with Trish McEvoy’s Intense Gel Eyeliner Pencil in Arabian Nights ($28.00 at Nordstrom). To finish off the look, use the sponge end of the pencil to slightly blend the two colors.
