Top Five St Andrews Day Trips

Now that the flurry of Fresher’s week has passed and the rhythm of St Andrews life gets underway it is always a nice idea to make plans for days away and breaks from your hard work. A moment that you can escape from the hustle and bustle of St Andrews life, from text books, bad library coffee and tutorial readings and explore somewhere a little further afield than west sands. Here are some top day trips that the Kingdom of Fife has to offer that are close enough that you are not spending hours in transit, yet far enough that you can, for a moment, forget about that essay!

 

1.          Crail

Only a fifteen minute ride on the bus, this gorgeous sea side town is the most idyllic place for a wander and a hot chocolate at the famous Crail Tearooms. Have a stroll along the beach and visit what has been named as the most beautiful viewpoint in all of Scotland.

 

2.       Anstruther

A beautiful port made famous for its renowned fish and chip shop, finding fresher fish and chips in Scotland would be hard to find! Not only is it a gastronomical delight but the port is pretty lovely too!

 

3.       Elie

Elie is another picturesque seaside town, with its colourful houses stretching around a curve of golden sand it is the most beautiful place to visit. Along with its luscious beaches Elie is also home to an incredible golf course if you ever feel like a change from the Old Course!

 

4.       Dundee

If you already have frequented Market Street’s H&M and New Look a million times Dundee would be the place for you! With Topshop, Zara and a host of other shops the high street alone really is a delight. Although a day out in Dundee might be a bad choice for the state of your bank balance you will never be sartorially challenged for a St Andrews ball again!

 

5.       Edinburgh

If you want the beauty of Crail, delicious food of Anstruther and retail therapy of Dundee Edinburgh is the place for you! Only an hour away by train from Leuchars this beautiful city has everything you need and more. With shops, art galleries, delicious food and a host of other attractions there is no shortage of things to do! So if it is a real break you need visit the capital of Scotland, you will not be disappointed!
