Last week, our very own Jenny Yau published an amazing article for those of us that do not like the classic scare-and-terror horror films. But if you’re in the mood for a proper scare – I’m talking full blown sweats and hyper-vigilant glances whenever a floorboard creaks – stick with me.

1. “The Sixth Sense” (1999)

One of the first horror movies I ever saw and truly a classic. It’s not actually too scary but it will definitely get you into that creepy, freaked-out mood. Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment are fantastic in this film.

2. “The Strangers” (2008)

Not too many people know about this film, and that is truly a shame. This is one of the scariest films I have ever seen, even though there is nothing supernatural or otherworldly about it. And yet it actually gave me nightmares afterwards, even though I thought I was okay right after finishing it. Liv Tyler is absolutely stunning in her performance. I highly recommend everyone watches this movie, if you dare…

3. “The Blair Witch Project” (1999)

This is another classic, a true staple of horror Halloween films. Between the documentary-esque feel of the movie and the unspeakable things the filmmakers see and do, this film will definitely get under your skin and make you feel like you are caught in the woods with them. The filmmakers go into the woods of Blair, MD to investigate the Blair Witch legend and get caught up in the horror…

4. “The Ring” (2002)

I hate (yet love) this movie so much. I know it’s not real and I know I won’t die within 7 days after watching it, and yet this film always manages to get under my skin. Apparently, another movie, “The Rings,” is coming out soon and is set in this universe – no idea whether it’ll live up to the original. Also the original Japanese version is supposed to be much scarier, but I haven’t worked the nerve to watch it yet.

5. “Don’t Breathe” (2016)

The newest film on the list, it has a solid plot and effectively frightening scares that you will never see coming. The basic plot: a group of thieves enter a house to steal a hefty amount of cash and get caught. Prepare yourself for lots of jump scares and some other horrendous scenes. That’s all I’m saying.

Enjoy :) Don’t forget to lock your doors tonight…
