VS27 officially got underway at The Vic in St Andrews with a sold out launch party, bringing together music, fashion and the community behind some of the universities’ most anticipated creative projects. With DJs Lucia, Dami and Zach keeping the room moving throughout the night, the launch offered a first glimpse of what VS27 has in store.

The atmosphere was electric from the moment the night began, The Vic quickly filled with guests, with each DJ bringing their own energy to the evening. The music, crowds and excitement made the launch feel less like a formal introduction and more like the beginning of something already in motion.

Speaking about the year ahead, VS Director Monty McNeil explained that ‘VS27 is also a really exciting year for us because we’re looking at a significant expansion in both the scale and ambition of what we’re doing.’ He also highlighted the enthusiasm of this year’s committee, describing ‘so much enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to take on responsibility across the team,’ which has made the project ‘feel bigger than any one person.’

That sense of collective effort seems central to the vision for VS27. Rather than simply putting on another event, the team wants to build something that can continue to grow beyond this year. As Monty put it, ‘ we’re not just putting on an event; we’re trying to build on what has come before us and create something that future committees can continue to grow.’

With the team already working alongside new sponsors and designers, there is plenty to look forward to. Monty added that these collaborations are going to ‘make this year so special,’ suggesting that the launch was only the beginning of what VS27 has planned.

Fashion with Purpose

Charity remains at the heart of VS, and this year the team is supporting The Snowbird Fund. The organisation provides support to the families of missing and murdered indigenous people in the United States, helping families search for their loved ones while filling gaps in support from the national government.

Choosing a cause with such significant real-world importance gives VS27 another dimension beyond its creative ambitions. It connects the excitement surrounding the events with an opportunity to contribute to something meaningful, continuing VS’s wider commitment to combining fashion, community and philanthropy.

The Beginning of VS27

The launch party was an exciting introduction to what looks set to be another ambitious year for VS. With a growing committee, the new sponsors and designers, and plenty more events still to come, the energy at The Vic felt like just the beginning.

Thank you to the VS team for having me at the launch. It was such a pleasure to be there and experience the beginning of VS27, and I can’t wait to see what the team creates for the rest of the year!
