Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Andrews chapter.

To be frank, I am not the world’s biggest fan of Halloween. Planning a costume always seems so stressful, time consuming, and expensive, and each year I end up planning out my costume at the last minute, scrambling to pull something together. So, if you’re in the same boat as me, I’ve gathered together some of my favorite last minute costume ideas for you.

EASY (you can most likely collect all these things from friends and requires minimal crafting):

  1. Regina GeorgePerfect for: Mean Girls fanaticsHow to: Take a cheap white tank, cut out the appropriate holes, and wear a brightly colored bra.Extra points: Print out a Kalteen label and paste over a protein bar. Carry foot cream.
  2. Deviled EggPerfect for: Pun loversHow to: Either wear all white, or cut out an egg shaped piece of white cardboard. Paste on a yellow “yoke” of cardboard, and borrow your friend’s devil’s horns (everyone has a friend with devils horns somewhere).
  3. Beanie BabyPerfect for: Those who want to be comfortable all night. How to: Throw on your onesie. Cute out a red, heart-shaped tag and write the TY lettering on it. Attach to onesie.Extra points: Put on a little face paint to make whiskers, a nose, etc.
  4. Wind up DollPerfect for: The fairy tale obsessed who don’t want to be a Disney princess…yet again. How to: Take an old paper towel roll and use paper to cut out a wind up handle (see picture). Attach to the pack of a sweet little fit and flare dress.Extra points: Carry a small prop like a stuffed animal or an umbrella. Amp up your usual makeup with long lashes and rosy cheeks.

MEDIUM (you may have to buy a thing or two and some crafting is required):

  1. Starbucks LoverPerfect for: Taylor Swift fansHow to: Print out a large Starbucks logo to attach to a white t-shirt. Print out kissy faces and hearts as well.Extra points: Stop by Starbucks and get a plastic cup you can use to hold your drink for the night!
  2. Your Tinder BioPerfect for: Those who want a conversation starter costume. How to: Print out your name, age, green heart, red “X”, and Tinder logo. Attach to a t-shirt.Extra points: Flame hat optional. Cut out extra hearts for handing out to whichever cuties you see.

HARD (you’re really going to have to go hunting for some specific items and you may have to have some crafting ability):

  1. Marty McFlyPerfect for: Film enthusiastsHow to: Plaid button down, jean jacket (cuffed at the sleeves), red puffer vest, light wash jeans, watch, black aviators, and the biggest, most 80’s sneakers you can find. Long haired girls- throw it up in a ponytail or bun.Extra points: Find a friend to be Doc. #realcommitment
  2. Frida KahloPerfect for: Art enthusiastsHow to: Get your long swishy maxi out of your closet, lots of colorful shawls and layer, layer, layer. Big gold jewelry is a must. Pin fake or real flowers across your crown with bobby pins. Also, an eyeliner-drawn unibrow is a must.Extra points: Bring your self-portrait (a great selfie will always do).
