It’s almost unbelievable that Christmas is already upon us, and yet here we are. 2020 has been a crazy one, and so I’m getting into the Christmas spirit a little early this year. Here are my best tips to ramp up the festive feeling!

Firstly, it may seem obvious, but Costa has bought out their new Christmas drinks range, and it looks to die for! If you fancy a change from the classic Pumpkin Spice or Gingerbread Latte, then look no further. Whether you fancy the Quality Street Latte, the After Eight Hot Chocolate or the Terry’s Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate, Costa has you covered.

While you’re at it, why not enjoy your festive drink alongside a movie? Netflix has just brought out the sequel to ‘The Princess Switch’ with ‘The Princess Switch: Switched Again’. What could be more perfect than a movie with two Vanessa Hudgens?? That’s right, one with three. Other suggestions include ‘Nativity’ for some pure joy, or ‘The Christmas Prince’ trilogy for some cringe-worthy amusement. Cosy up and enjoy!

If living with flatmates, you could add a little excitement to the end of term by organizing a ‘Secret Santa.’ The budget doesn’t have to be huge, but this is a nice way to get everyone in the Christmas spirit, allowing you to really put time into someone’s gift and make it individual to them. Set a date for the gift exchange and pop the presents underneath a tree (Argos has a 5ft tree for only £11.99!), then enjoy the look on people’s faces as they open their gifts! I would thoroughly recommend putting on some Christmas tunes in the background – it isn’t Christmas until someone tries to imitate Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’!

For those of you in St Andrews, plenty is happening to get Christmas going. Gin brand Eden Mill has opened a pop-up shop right on Market Street, which is perfect for Christmas shopping. The brand’s festive range include luxury Christmas hampers, Candy Cane Gin, and ready-to-drink Christmas cocktails.

What’s more, Janetta’s have just added their Christmas flavours to their already fabulous menu. Whether you fancy Gingerbread, Mince Pie, or Christmas pudding-flavoured ice cream, or much more, I recommend you go! The weather may be getting colder, but Janetta’s is always worth it.

If you would like to support another independent business, The Seafood Ristorante are offering a Christmas dinner delivery service. For £55, you and one other person can get a starter, main course and dessert packaged in a hamper. Order before the 23rd December to receive nationwide delivery. Supporting a local business whilst simultaneously indulging sounds like a perfect mix to me! Visit the restaurant’s website to find out more.

Whether in St Andrews or not, hopefully these ideas will give some inspiration to get the Christmas spirit going. As said, 2020 has been a strange year, but we can still try and make the most of what is left. Enjoy the festive fun!
