Catwalk, St Andrews’ most low-key but fabulously eclectic fashion show, held last Saturday night as part of St Andrews’ RAG Week, re-awakened my love of fur. As female models strutted moodily down the catwalk showcasing antique dealer Curiosity’s range of fur coats and a stuffed fox scarf, a sense of dark and dangerous excitement permeated the Union’s Venue 1. Although there has been a growing aversion to wearing real fur since the time our grandmothers walked around swathed in it, 70% of fashion designers used it in their 2013 autumn/ winter collections, persuading us with glamorous, beautiful models of its empowering quality. Holly Graham adheres subtly to this “killer” trend by accessorising her outfit with a rabbit fur snood from Armani, while Lucy Fellows channels Lewis Carol’s White Witch in grannie’s faux fur coat.
