When I’m sad, I like to be extra sad.

Recently, I have been doing a lot of yearning, and to emphasize my melancholy I’ve curated a playlist with the most emotionally-devastating, soul-crushing songs to listen to while curled in a dark corner. If you’re looking to shed a tear or two, read on.

Love Who We Are Meant To by Feist

Most devastating lyric: We will struggle with the truth / That sometimes we don’t get to / Love who we are meant to

Just because you love someone doesn’t mean you’re supposed to be with them. And that sucks.

She by dodie

Most devastating lyric: And she tastes like birthday cake and storytime and fall / But to her / I taste of nothing at all

You know you never had a chance.

Be My Mistake by The 1975

Most devastating lyrics: ‘Cause we shouldn’t speak / You do make me hard / But she makes me weak

Being second choice is hard. And so is Matty Healy.

Loose Fitting Bedsheet by Wesley Preis

Most devastating lyric: I’m always scared that you’ll marry someone blonde / And I’ll go to your wedding, and I’ll have to watch

It’s awful remembering what you lost, but it’s worse thinking about what could have been.

HYD by Hayley Williams

Most devastating lyric: And how your eyes are shut, so you cannot see / Just how very close I keep you to me

You wish you could stop thinking about how they’re doing now.

Deny Me by Grace Gardner

Most devastating lyric: I get this twisted and sickening feeling / I’m gonna marry you

You are begging for all that love to mean something.

I’d Have To Think About It by Leith Ross

Most devastating lyric: I’m scared to death that I’ll scream your name / And still there’s not a thing I would change

Would you go back if they asked you to?
