Her Campus Spelman x CFW Fashionista Profile: Cameron Bothwell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Spelman chapter.

Her Campus Spelman is bringing College Fashion Week, mirrored after the infamous New York and Paris fashion week, to our illustrious institution. Over the past week or so, our team has interviewed those with impeccable taste in fashion. Cameron Bothwell, a Morehouse College English major from Atlanta, Georgia explains his passion for fashion and what it means to him.

How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style as unique. Of course everybody is influenced by trends, but I try my best whether influenced by trends or not to dress how I want to and make sure that I’m picking out stuff that I like. I’m not dressing the way I do to try and fit into a certain box or appeal to the masses, I wear what I want to wear because  I like it.

Has anyone influenced your style?

I feel like I’m influenced most by TV characters that I might see everyday. I enjoy anime so I might take a little inspiration from Sailor Moon or watch an old TV show and get inspiration from a vintage style. I pick up inspiration from whatever I see, it’s not really from one person.

Do you consider your style unique? If so, when did you realize this?

I feel like the first time I realized my style was kind of unique was around sixth grade. That’s when I really started to pick my own clothes out for myself. I used to pick out wacky things like a pair of tight, bright red skinny jeans and wear them with a cardigan and an animal hat; it was always very eccentric.

Have you ever considered style anyone else?

Honestly, I haven’t. I feel like the way that I dress, I kind of tailor it for me so I’m not sure how it would look on anyone else.

What is the process that you go through when picking out an outfit?

The process I go through is basically just throwing on clothes, taking them back off, mix matching things and figuring out what I like for the day.

Do you believe there is a correlation between individuality and fashion?

I feel like there is a correlation because no matter what trends may be in place, I feel like there’s always a way to make something unique to you. I feel like it’s very easy to show your individuality in fashion.

What’s your favorite thing in your closet right now?

It’s not in my closet yet, but it’s ordered and at my house. I just ordered a pair of plaid pants that are black and bright yellow and I’m really excited cause I love plaid pants.

How has fashion helped you?

I feel like fashion has helped me figure out who I am and who I want to be in life. I feel like through clothes and wearing different types of clothes, I always figure out more about myself. Fashion allows me to have a never-ending journey and finding what I’m comfortable in.

What are your career aspirations?

Honestly, as far as career aspirations it’s really kind of up in the air. Right now, I’ve started a beauty blog and am thinking about going into beauty journalism because I keep up with makeup a lot. I would love to write about beauty and beauty trends. I would also love to be a social media manager for a company and interact with their clients. I love social media and the business aspect of it where you can create a platform and do a lot of stuff from nothing.
