Period Mix: Let the Music Heal the Pain

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Southern Miss chapter.

“When that time of the month comes, my angelic girlfriend turns into a spawn of Satan”

Some people see it as beautiful, while others see it as “The Monthly Curse”. Regardless, Mother Nature never fails to show her presence. During a woman’s cycle, emotions, fatigue, pain, and bloating often occurs, why not try a different approach besides Midol? During a scene in the movie No Strings Attached, starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, Kutcher creates a gross but entertaining “period mix” CD  for Portman.  After all, laughter is the best medicine, right?

Collecton of HC Southern Miss’s Most entertaining “period mix” songs:

1. “Bleeding Love” – Leona Lewis
“I keep bleeding, I keep keep bleeding love”. Can’t decide whether to laugh or cry? Me either.

2. “Waterfalls” – TLC
Something tells me those feelings in this TLC classic aren’t the only thing that’s heavy.

3. “I’ve Got The World On A String” – Frank Sinatra
Did Frank Sinatra already know the power of the period mix when he made this song?

4. “Look But you can’t Touch” – Poison
Poison pretty much summed it up with this song. Maybe your partner should listen to this song too.

5. “I Love You, Period” – Dan Baird
            I love you period!

After it’s all said and done, regardless of the pain and mood swings, every girl is glad to see their monthly visit, unless birth control is involved. If Mother Nature just doesn’t come, well that’s another story… Whether it’s your best friend, girlfriend, or roommate who’s dealing with the symptoms of PMS, I’m sure a little cheering up wouldn’t hurt. Go for it! Consider creating your own period mix inspired by No Strings Attached.
