Fall is well and truly here and with it comes the chance to completely reinvent your wardrobe. Her Campus aims to give you a brief outline of this season’s big trends and how you can purchase a few key pieces that will bring you bang up-to-date and add style to any tired outfit.

Punk

One of those trends that comes back time and time again punk was once more all over the A/W catwalks. Going all out with this type of look may be for the more courageous among us but it is a versatile look that can be toned down or maxed out depending on your desired situation. Patent leather, risqué choices, spikes and chunky boots are all punk staples and can be used to toughen up a plainer or more feminine outfit. This necklace from Urban Outfitters is a great way to add a hard edge to your outfit without committing to anything too extreme.

Tartan

The tartan trend ties in well with punk but can also be taken in a softer direction by copying the classic private school kilt and channelling your inner St. Trinians. Tartan/plaid accents will be found on everything this fall, lining coats, on collars and all over accessories.  A cute tartan bag like this Topshop satchel will go great with any look.

Statement Outerwear

A staple in any winter wardrobe is a statement coat, and this year we’ll be seeing some great styles in the shops. Look for exaggerated silhouettes and extra details on yours so that no matter the weather you know you’re going to look on trend as well as staying cosy. I adore the Sherpa collar on this coat from Jack Wills, it would make a great investment piece.

Borrow From The Men

Masculine cuts and styles are very in at the moment, wide shoulders, straight legged pants and baggy sweaters are all good ways of incorporating it into your everyday look. Team one androgynous piece with a more girly outfit, such as a boxy jacket over a pretty dress or some wide-legged pants with kitten heels to keep it current and retain your feminine charm. This super cute Fisherman’s Sweater from L.L. Bean will look great over a button-down shirt with some classic skinny jeans.

Hopefully you’re now armed with tons of great fall outfit ideas that will make you the envy of the campus. You might even be stopped by Her Campus’ style spotter!
