Campus Celebrity: Drew Davidson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Southern Miss chapter.

Meet Her Campus’ Celebrity of the week, Drew Davidson. This is Drew’s first year here at Southern Miss as a MFA acting major. He graduated undergrad in 2012 from North Kentucky University with a BFA in Acting and Dance minor. He did some stand-up comedy in Cincinnati at Go Bananas Comedy Club and was a semi-finalist for the funniest person in the club. This comes as no surprise if you were able to catch Drew in his debut at Southern Miss in The Government Inspector

Her campus caught up with Drew this week.

Her Campus: “You were great in The Government Inspector. What was your favorite part about that role?”

Drew Davidson: “Thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed the show! My favorite part, besides that velvet jacket was the journey Khlestakov goes on. He starts out penniless, stuck in this hillbilly town, and is about to be tossed in jail by the innkeeper, but by the end of the play- thanks to the mayor’s misinterpretaion of the situation- winds up being taken to this fantasy world he has always dreamed of. People are hanging on his every word, women are falling over him, and he gets so much money.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      HC: “What are some other roles that you’ve played in the past that you’ve really liked?”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         DD: “My top three past shows have been when I was Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, Rocky Horror in Rocky Horror Show, and Algernon Moncrieff in The Importance of Being Ernest.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 HC: “What would be some future roles you would like to play?”

DD: ” I’m not too picky when it comes to roles. But I’ll be in any play by Oscar Wilde, Joe Orton, or Christopher Durang.”

HC: “What are some of your biggest dreams or goals to achieve?”

DD: “My dream would be to make it as a professional actor. Film/Television or stage. When I say “make it,” I don’t mean famous or rich necessarily. If I can make a living (own a home, a car, go on a vacation, have a savings account, send my kids to college) and do it by just doing theater, that would be ideal. But besides performing, my other passion is teaching. I would love to teach acting at a university and be a professor. I’d also like to open a grades k-12 acting and dancing studio: Davidson Academy of Theater and Dance.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 HC: “What makes you have a love for theater?”

DD: “It is like describing the feeling you get when holding a new-born baby, or when you finally see a loved one who has been overseas for months. When I do theater, I get this fire-like sensation in my bones. There isn’t a reason why I do theater. So much of theater is why I do anything. It is my fuel; my passion. That indescribable feeling in your belly that makes you get up in the morning.”
