Student safety: A disconcerting sexual assault in the heart of Southampton

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to contact them in correspondence to an alleged sexual assault in East Park in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The attack took place in East Park, situated near Orions Point. The victim, a 25-year old woman, has reported to the police that she was walking through East Park early on Sunday 28th April, when two men attacked her. She described the two men as tall, black and in their early thirties. One had short hair, the other was described as having a short beard. The woman claimed she was alone, attacked between midnight and 2am.

Anyone with any information should contact Det Insp Scrase at Southampton Central police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

In light of such an assault we urge you to be extra vigilant when out in the evenings. Never travel alone if you can help it, stick to well-lit roads and never fail to use a licensed mini-cabs. Just to reiterate, Radio Taxi’s have affiliated with the University: if you cannot pay for a taxi, you can give them your student ID and pay at the student union.

Stay aware, stay safe.
