USC Fashion Series: Elizabeth Langston, Clothing Entrepreneur

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

Who says you can’t pursue your #jobgoals while still in college? In our mini USC fashion series we talk to students pursuing a career in the fashion industry, and whether you’re a designer, entrepreneur or fashion blogger, there’s one thing that’s common: a creative mind. Who knows, one day they could be walking across the graduation stage, the next they could be behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week. So take a look inside the life of students working in different areas of the fashion world…and maybe pick up a few fashion trends at the same time.

Our first featured student is fourth-year sport management student, Elizabeth Langston. She’s the owner and founder of South of the Line Outfitters.

Her Campus South Carolina: What made you want to start this brand?

Elizabeth Langston: I have a love for the South and Southern culture. I come from a Southern family, and I love the values that have been instilled in me. I also love comfy t-shirts, so I put the two together!

HCSC: What are your plans for (S.L.O) in the future?

EL: To grow of course! We are expanding to the University of Georgia, where a student will be selling our products. One of the biggest goals I have for the future is to be in stores like Palmetto Moon and Palmetto Traditions and eventually be able to open up my own store fronts!

HCSC: How do you balance building your brand while being a full-time student?

EL: I make a list every night of the tasks I need to accomplish the next day. I use calendars and lists to always know what I have going on so I can organize my life accordingly.

HCSC: What are some things (S.L.O) sells?

EL: I sell T-shirts. I use Comfort Colors blank t-shirts and then I make my designs and put them on the shirt (I do all the printing myself.) Sometimes it’s witty or relatable sayings and other times it can be images. I also sell polos and hats with our logo on them!

HCSC: Describe the designing process for your products/process to receiving/picking the clothes.

EL: Inspiration hits me all the time and I make a design. I have countless designs ready for production and am waiting for the right time to release them. When it is time to release them, I order my blank shirts from a wholesaler and pick them up. Then I go through all the steps of printing the design onto the shirt. From there I take pictures and post them on the website! I mail products to my customers!

HCSC: What are the most popular item(s) at (S.L.O)?

EL: Our “Come Hell or High Water” shirt is probably the most popular but both of our American Flag designs are a huge hit, too.

HCSC: How can people buy your products?

EL: Online at www.SouthOfTheLineOutfitters.com

HCSC: Any additional tips would you want to share with our readers?

EL: Don’t be afraid to accept help and don’t give up. Sometimes, it seems like it’s not going to take off, but once I push through those moments is when the biggest opportunities strike.
