It’s beginning to feel a lot more like winter this week in Columbia. As the temperature continues to drop, you’re probably spending a lot more time snuggled up in bed with a good book or binging something on Netflix. If you’re anything like us, you’re always looking for new recommendations, so we’ve put together just a few things we’re loving this month.
Books
Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
John Green books are known for somehow being funny and devastating at the same time. If you loved The Fault in Our Stars, you’ll love his newest book. Turtles All The Way Down is about a sixteen-year-old girl with OCD who goes on an adventure to find a runaway billionaire. It’s funny and smart while also being an honest portrayal of mental health.
Music
“Reputation” by Taylor Swift
It’s been three years but she’s finally back! Taylor Swift’s sixth album is definitely different but still full of fun, relatable jams for being in love or for feeling like the world is out to get you.
“Flicker” by Niall Horan
The third solo release by an ex-1D member does not disappoint. Niall’s album has more of a guitar-driven, John Mayer vibe. The lyrics are sweet and romantic, and it’s a perfect album for the fall season.
Netflix
Stranger Things 2
It’s back! If you’re like us, you probably already binged all nine episodes in a day or two. Totally understandable. If you haven’t started yet, it’s a perfect show to watch in bed when it’s cold and gloomy out.
Mind Hunter
Mind Hunter is another Netflix new release. It’s about FBI special agents traveling the country to interview serial killers and trying to use psychology to profile them. It features real serial killers like the Co-Ed Killer and BTK. It’s a little dark, but it will definitely keep you entertained.
Podcasts
My Favorite Murderer
Okay, so you’ll probably find this on pretty much any podcast recommendation list ever created, but it’s seriously one of the best. It’s much more conversational and lighthearted than your average true crime podcast – almost like listening to your best friend recap the latest episode of “Criminal Minds.” It’s also hosted by two badass ladies who offer advice on how to keep yourself safe out there.
Adult Sh*t
If you love procrastinating by watching BuzzFeed videos, you’ll probably be familiar with the hosts of “Adult Sh*t.” It’s pretty new (there’s only three episodes so far), but it’s definitely promising. Kate and Kelsey tackle the problems we all face as young adult women, and it’s always nice to know there’s someone going through the same things that you are. Find it under “Adult Sh*t” on iTunes.
