Kate Nunn, Such a ‘Delight’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

Name: Kate Nunn

Major: Public Health

Year: Senior

Hometown: Huntsville, Alabama

Her Campus: What is Delight?

Kate Nunn: “We are a women’s Christian community group. Not really a Bible study, but we do study a book. Delight started in Tennessee and is now at about 150 campuses all over the world. Honestly it is so much fun and you learn from the books. They are made up of stories written by girls in college and they go through part of their testimony and how God changed their life.”

HC: How did you first hear about Delight?

KN: “I had a friend from home that went to Auburn that started Delight there. I really wanted to bring it to USC because I thought our campus and I could use more women’s fellowship.

HC: What was the process that you went through to bring it to USC?

KN: “I went to Delight’s national homepage and I contacted the founders about launching a chapter here at USC. After I got the go ahead, I spent an hour on the phone with one of the founders talking to her about the process and about my personal testimony. I then went to the Leadership and Service center and started Delight as a student organization. All in all it took about three months.”

HC: How did you go about recruiting people for the leadership team?

KN: “All of the girls that were on the original leadership team were suggested by someone other than myself. I was talking to someone about Delight and what it would be and someone would say, “I know so and so who would be a good fit.”

HC: Do you plan to continue to work in women’s ministries after you graduate?

KN: “Yes, in some aspect. I hope to be involved in some other Bible study and hopefully I’ll be able to lead a young women’s Bible study.”

HC: What are your hopes for Delight after you graduate?

KN: “I hope to pass the torch on to my current Delight leaders and let them really help expand Delight by adding more leaders that can pull in more members. I also hope to give to Delight as part of my tithes to help them with funds.”

HC: What advice do you have for other college women wanting to start an organization at USC?

KN: “Don’t waste any time, start now. Gather as many members as you can that would be interested in your organization. Start tabling and putting out as many flyers as you can. Honestly, just don’t be afraid to go for it. If you include God in your plans and stay motivated, then you will succeed.”

HC: Anything you want to add about Delight for girls interested in joining?

KN: “Yes, Delight will change your life.  God will work in ways that you never knew possible. You will have a new outlook on girls your age and how we all struggle with the same things. Your heart will become more open and compassionate for others when you see what is going on in other people’s lives. You will make new friends that you never knew you needed. It is just life changing having a group of girls who will support you and have your back no matter what.”
