Hair Care Products We Love for Thick Hair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

Hey gals! This article is for the girls with the thick hair who feel like they’ve tried EVERYTHING, and nothing works (ugh). Try these four products, and your hair will be replenished, silky and you can finally say goodbye to the frizz that clings to your gorgeous curls.

Maui Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner

This is my favorite shampoo and conditioner combo that I have used by far! I buy them from Target, but I know they are sold on Amazon as well if you can’t find them in stores. Maui Moisture is a great brand and I have used several of their products, but the Shea Butter version is my favorite. It is aimed towards dry, and damaged hair and is amazing at hydrating your hair follicles. They use aloe vera juice, coconut water, shea butter, and coconut and macademia oils. It leaves my hair feeling so soft and gets rid of frizz so I love it. Not to mention it smells amazing. Give it a try!

Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse

I discovered this product through Birchbox, which is a beauty subscription box for those of you who haven’t heard of it. This apple cider vinegar hair rinse is a game changer. I have never been able to shower without washing my hair because of the dry and frizziness, but have been constantly told that washing your hair everyday was unhealthy. This hair rinse is the solution to that because in between washes, I use this and it removes buildup, cleans my hair without stripping its natural oils, and leaves my hair feeling soft when I get out of the shower. I expected this product to smell awful, but because it is infused with argan oil and lavender, I don’t really notice it. I usually buy this off of Amazon.

Herbal Essences Dry Shampoo

This is my favorite dry shampoo ever! This isn’t directed towards girls with thick or curly hair, specifically, but it works great. The tapioca is very effective at absorbing the oils in your hair, and the dry shampoo doesn’t leave any residue, unlike some other brands. Bonus, the scent is amazing- sometimes I use this just for the smell even when my hair isn’t too oily. You can buy this product at any store from Walgreens to Target.

Garnier Leave-In Conditioner

I currently only have the sample form of this product because I received this to try at a HerCampus meeting but I ended up loving it, so I have a stash of these in my drawer! Garnier’s Whole Blend Repairing Leave-In is A-MAY-ZING and I have been handing these out to my friends like candy. It is suitable for all hair types, but works great for thick hair. It moisturizes, softens, tames frizz, protects against heat, and most importantly does not make my hair feel heavy and oily the next morning. Oh and did I mention it smells good? Clearly smell is a big decision factor when it comes to hair care for me.

I hope you all try these products and find them effective for you as they are for me,

Sincerely, Meghan Keeler
