Five 2020 Styles That are Here to Stay

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

For many years, fashion has been a way for individuals to distinguish themselves as well as feel a sense of community at the same time. This year, at least for me, it’s been a hobby to pass the time and express my creativity during the pandemic. Unfortunately for my bank account, my new hobby, with the help of online shopping, has cost me more than a pretty penny.  Spring is upon us, and therefore spring cleaning is in sight. After many online searches, I’ve found five things that can stay in your closet from last year.

Masks.

Obviously, until we’re post-pandemic, masks are here to stay. Something important to note though, is that people have started styling masks to match their outfits/aesthetic rather than reaching for the surgical masks of days past.

Puffy sleeves.

According to Cosmopolitan, puffy sleeves “have been around for a while… and they’re still trending, for 2020 and 2021 folks!” So take this as your cue to unleash your inner princess and let those sleeves flow!

Matching sets.

Instyle estimates that matching tops and bottoms are here to stay. This means that you can hang on to your homemade tie-dye sweats for a little longer!

Pastels & soft colors.

Although pastels in the Spring are nothing new, “butter yellow”, lilac, and pink are going to be staples this season according to Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazzar.

Cardigans.

Whether you layered them with your favorite top or wore them by themselves, it’s a safe bet that cardigans have infiltrated your wardrobe in the past year, and Cosmopolitan says that they’re here to stay.

While this is by no means a comprehensive list, it’s a good place to start for fashionistas like me. And, if you’re anything like me, you have a hard time letting go of beautiful clothes too! Who can say goodbye to a pair of jeans or a top that fits perfectly? No matter what the magazines say is “in style” at the time, I urge you to stay true to your personal taste. Afterall, confidence is always in style!
