Darius Rucker and Mark Byan Concert at USC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

As if we didn’t already know that the University of South Carolina was the best school ever, Wednesday evening just gave us a reason to love it even more.

In celebration of the dedication of the new School of Journalism and Mass Communications building, USC alumnus Darius Rucker and Mark Bryan performed a free concert on the horseshoe. Both Darius and Mark graduated from the journalism school at USC with degrees in Broadcast Journalism many years ago. It was right here at USC that their band, Hootie & the Blowfish, originated. The dean of the College of Information and Communications, Charles Bierbauer, reached out to these two famous alumni in hopes of having them put on a concert for the opening of the beautiful new building.

Following the dedication of the new building, hundreds of students came out to see the concert. As if getting a new building wasn’t enough, the students of the journalism school and those in the School of Library and Information Science were also given special wristbands to access the area close up to the stage.

Although it was only about a 30 minute performance, it was definitely enjoyed by all. Having famous alumni to put on free concerts reminds us that it is truly great to be a gamecock!
