As the South Carolina Republican Primary draws near, Republican candidates are racing around the state to spread their ideas and get as many supporters as possible. Top contenders, like Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Donald Trump, and Jeb Bush have all extensively been traveling the state and putting their best efforts in the last week of campaigning.

On Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2015, Ted Cruz visited the Armory in Columbia, South Carolina, just a few minutes from the Williams-Brice Stadium. Filled with almost 300 supporters, the Armory hosted Cruz and many guest speakers, including former New Hampshire Senator Bob Smith, Vietnam War Veteran and Evangelical Minister Tim Lee, Afghanistan Veteran Dakota Meyers, and Governor of Texas Rick Perry.

When Cruz finally stepped on stage, the crowd roared, fully embellished in Ted Cruz shirts, buttons, stickers and holding small American flags and signs that read “Choose Cruz” or “I Don’t Believe the Liberal Media.” Cruz, being the great speaker that he is, was able to move the crowd with his strong words, patriotism, Reagan references, and important stances on issues. When stating, “In January, our friends and allies and enemies both, will know America is back,” and his plans for a full military/army/navy/air force restoration and expansion, the crowd jumped up, waving flags and agreeing loudly. Although, serious about his stances on the issues, Cruz was able to add a little personality in his speech, such as referring to government officials as “plush-bottom bureaucrats,” insulting a certain candidate’s tweets, and repeatedly using everyday language to shut down past democratic ideas with phrases like “that’s just nuts!”

As the final days before the primary pass by, Cruz also plans to visit Anderson and Seneca with special guest Congressman Jeff Duncan, Spartanburg, Greenville, and Easley. For more information on the Ted Cruz events and policies, visit www.tedcruz.org.
