5 Date Night Ideas that Won’t Break the Bank

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.
  1. Ice-skating

The Plex in Irmo, a town just 15 minutes from Columbia, has a great ice-skating rink! Especially for Southerners who rarely have the experience of being around snow, ice-skating is a fun way to cool off from the incoming heat. Prices start at only $10 for an all-night skate date.

  2. Movie

Going to a movie is the most classic date idea. You could always stay in and watch that new Netflix hit that’s been on your list for months, or you could check out a local theater like The Nickelodeon on Main Street or the Spotlight Cinema in St. Andrews (where tickets are only $3!!).

  3. Soda City

Every Saturday morning, vendors from all around the state gather on Main Street for a street fair known as Soda City. There are tons of food trucks (you have to check out the Belgian Waffle truck, it’s one of our faves!), clothing stands, art galleries, and performers. Most places are relatively inexpensive and a great place for a cute date.

  4. Museum

For those artsy, scholarly couples, Columbia has a great array of museums. The State Museum offers tons of exhibits highlighting South Carolina history and the Columbia Museum of Art includes galleries of both local and renowned artists and will exhibit a Van Gogh collection in the fall. Also, be sure to check out museums on local history, like the Robert Mills House, and the McKissick Museum on the Horseshoe.

  5. Dinner and (of course!) Dessert

When you’re super hungry and looking for a big meal on a budget, one of our favorite places in Columbia is the Rosewood Dairy Bar. This place has great fried chicken and burgers, and their fries are the best in town! Make sure to leave room for dessert because the dairy bar has heavenly banana splits and sundaes.
