In just a few days I’ll be done with my first semester of Sophomore year.  Where did the freaking time go?  It feels like just yesterday I was getting on the plane to go to Italy with my family.  It feels like just yesterday I was turning 19 and blowing out the candles on the birthday cake the nice lady from Cafe Centrale had got for me after going to dinner with my family.  I can still taste the Champagne and Campari I had with the cake, and now all I can taste is the ramen i’m eating in the library as I study for my history final I have in 24 hours.

Sometimes I still can’t believe i’m in college.  Sometimes I still can’t believe i’m two and a half years away from (hopefully) being a college graduate, and being on my own.  When I was young I couldn’t wait for the day to come when I would graduate high school, go to college and get a job and be independent…and here I am, on the verge of independence, only a couple years away.  The fact that i’m going to be 20 in six months is still unreal.  The fact that next year i’m likely going to have my own apartment, and rent to pay, and real responsibilities is slightly terrifying.  But hey, it’s what I’ve been waiting for since I was 10 years old.

The fact that I made it through freshman years without completely losing it and dropping out was a big step for me.  Luckily I made it through with a lot of support, but I sometimes still felt that college wasn’t really for me.  This year was definitely a big change with a new dorm, great roommates, joining a sorority, and other clubs on campus.  I remembered that the more I got involved, the more likely I was to succeed.

I’m really looking forward to next semester though.  I’m taking some classes for my major, finishing up my lower division GE’s and I’ll have Junior status by Fall 2018 and I’ll finally be focusing on my major.  After a year and a half I’m finally excited about where I’m headed and what opportunities are going to come my way in the next few years.

Second year at SSU. Hobbies of mine include Photography, Writing, and Singing in the shower.
