This labor day weekend was a blur.  Meeting hundreds of people in 100 degree weather for 4 days in a row can do that to you though.

Before the weekend started, I had no idea what I was getting into.  I mean, I had an idea of what could possibly happen, but I had no idea what to expect until that first day was over.  The first day of recruitment was probably the most overwhelming for me.  I was meeting tons of new people and talking to 2-4 girls in all 6 of Sonoma State’s Panhellenic sororities.  It was crazy and exciting, but I went home the first night and started completely questioning if the whole thing was for me, and if I even wanted to go back.  My roommates were not too excited about it either.  They did not love the idea of me potentially being in a sorority, but I knew it was something I had to do.  I was going through this whole process for myself and no one else.

So the first day was total insanity.  It was 100 degrees and I basically stayed inside all day until I had to meet my group at the student center.  We went around and met all the different sororities from 4pm-12am and by the end of the night, I was exhausted, but more excited than I thought I’d be.

The second day was nerve wracking because I did not know which sororities I would be asked back to.  The second day went from 11am-5pm and I was asked back to Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Omicron Pi, and Phi Sigma Sigma.  I was excited about all three because they were the three that had stuck out the most for me on the first day.  We learned about each of the sororities and philanthropy events, which I was really interested in.  All three were really passionate about their philanthropy and it was really cool to hear about all the amazing stuff they did.

The third day I was asked back to Phi Sigma Sigma and I could not have been happier.  This was the sorority that one of my old roommates from freshman year had pledged to, and one of my biggest mentors, and fellow Her Campus writer, Jenna, belongs to as well.  On bid day when I opened that envelope I felt like I had finally found my home, as well as so many amazing other girls.

I know this will be an amazing experience for me and I am really excited to see where it takes me.  I am lucky that my friends and family have been supportive of my decision to be a part of greek life and I am ready to start my journey as a member of Phi Sigma Sigma at Sonoma State.  I can definitely say I’ve found my home away from home.
