Well Ladies (and Gentlemen),

Meet Mr. Gavin McInnes. This lovely, well spoken gentleman is a well known man in the world of media (he frequents FOX News and is the co-founder of Vice Media). His opinion, I am sure, matters to certain ears, but I had a few reactions to his comments.

“If you were a real feminist, you would support housewives.”

Yes, because feminists support everyone. That is the point. Feminists fight for equality across gender. And women do have the right to be housewives but they also have the right to bring home the bacon. Women can be homemakers and breadwinners at the same time. And that is beautiful.

“You are miserable, you would be so much happier with kids around you tonight.”

Some women don’t like children, some women do not want children. They reserve the right to make that choice without input from our friend here. Women are hard workers, and if they choose to work, that is a beautiful choice. Just like having children is a choice.

“Feminism has made women miserable.”

What? Just what? No. Feminism has generated so much change for women, it isn’t perfect yet. I know that there is a lot still to change, but feminism fights for the equality of both genders, meaning that men can also be housedads and that it should be socially acceptable. Women work hard to be equal because we are ambitious. We fight for not only ourselves but for everyone.

See, where we are and where we are going are two different places, but it is the patriarchal, sexist, manipulative men like Gavin McInnes that make my skin crawl. He is married, and has a son who I hope grows up to support the equality of human beings. Being a human is hard enough, but when people like Mr. McInnes make the hard work and self worth of certain people cripple, then that makes him less of a person. Hating feminism is only going to make him meaner and angrier, and make us feminists more powerful. Feminism fights together to stand together in unity. And I think that that is beautiful.

She grew up in southern California, and even though she misses the warm beach, she really enjoys living in wine country in northern CA. She has always had a passion for writing and is so grateful that Her Campus allows her to share that love and encourage others to join in the fun.
