Madison Ingraham is a sophomore at Sonoma State University. She is a biology major with a concentration in molecular and cell biology. After graduating, Madison would like to go to grad school to pursue a PhD in genetics. She likes science, music (particularly her neglected bass Cody), her horse Spiderman, and her goldfish Ernest Herringway.
HC: Hi Madison, thanks for hanging out with us today! So where are you from?
MI: This tiny, tiny town called Saratoga south of San Francisco. I briefly lived in San Francisco in North Beach near Coit Tower.
HC: Do you miss living in Saratoga or San Francisco?
MI: Definitely not the traffic! Or any of it. Just kidding, I still visit SF often and Saratoga is a beautiful place.
HC: What made you pick Sonoma State?
MI: I wanted a small school with a growing bio program that was affordable and near agriculture so I could bring Spider (horse) with me to college.
HC: Why did you decide to study biology?
MI: I’ve loved animals since I was a child, and from an early age I wanted to know how they worked. Since the day I learned what a cell was, my first thought when I saw an animal or a person was that I wanted to know how their cells worked together to make them who and what they are.
HC: What’s been your favorite class at Sonoma and why?
MI: It’s a tie between Biology 130 and Philosophy 165A! I loved Philosophy 165 because I was very passionate about the topic and it’s where I met my lifelong friends.
HC: What organizations are you involved in on campus?
MI: This year I joined the Vagina Monologues! I also just started working in Dr. Place’s lab as an undergrad research assistant, and I am a working student at LSM Sport Horses.
HC: What do you like to do in your free time?
MI: LOL what free time. I like spending time with my horse and occasionally my friends? But really I like to yell angrily about politics and the patriarchy with friends.
HC: Thanks Madison! Keep up the great work!
