Off Campus Housing vs On Campus Housing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sonoma chapter.

On-Campus Housing

1.     You can use loans to pay your housing, that way it is easier for parents to pay your tuition and housing at the same time!

2.     You make new friends with new roommates and neighbors!

3.     You can wake up ten minutes before class starts and you can still make it on time.

4.     If there is a walk of shame to be done, you don’t have to walk that far!

5.     The Kitchens are always a go-to (and not far at all) if you do not have a kitchen, or if you do not want to cook.

6.     You always know what activities are going on throughout campus!

7.     There is no need to budget for water, garbage, and electricity.

8.     Doing your laundry is always a social event with either your roommates or neighbors.

9.     You can feel safer in your dorm knowing there are plenty of people surrounding you and the police are about two minutes away.

Off-Campus Housing

1.     You know exactly who you’re moving in with and they can even be your best friends!

2.     You can spend less money living off-campus even though you have to pay room and board separately.

3.     You do not have a CSA checking up on you constantly, creating more freedom in your own home.

4.     Any on-campus “illegal” activity can be done, so this means you can get a puppy!

5.     You can come and go as you please without worrying if you’ll be written up.

6.     You learn to be more responsible by managing money and food.

7.     You are not bothered by the close quarters with roommates and neighbors.

8.     Having a separate life from campus can feel more relaxing.

9.     It’s not On-Campus, bottomline.
