Bucket List #17: Go to Friar’s in the Day Time to Try the Food

Friars, the most popular bar on the Cotati Crawl. That is, on Thursday nights, but what about during the day? Is it even open? The answer to that is yes! Casey and I decided to venture to the unknown and thought we would try some of Friars lunch time specials. Along with our other roommate Jeanne, we walked into Friars in the daylight. And yes, there was pretty much no one there.

With many seats to choose from, we sat our self down at a table and looked over a menu. Surprisingly, they have a lot of options and some good looking stuff at that! Casey and I ordered some chilli and Jeanne got a burger and onion rings. While we waited, we enjoyed some drinks that we had always known Friars for. We got our food and it was delicious! They have amazing chilli that I would defiantly go back for.

One fun fact about Friars during the day is that it is for all ages. Yes, we were at Friars with a child…kind of ruined the ambiance of the bar for us but was entertaining when he started dancing to some music that was playing. I think he was even more talented than some other dancing we have seen go down on Thirsty Thursdays.

Fun Facts About Friars:It was founded in 1992 by Marcus and Cheryl Nixon. Their goal was to create an atmosphere that was not like your average bar. With the Scottish themed decorations, they wanted more than just neon signs and excess of alcohol marketing. They even took a trip to Scotland to get a better feel of how to decorate. Friars continues to be a “family” business and a popular spot on the crawl.

Alexandra Schwarz is a senior at Sonoma State University located in Northern California. As a Communications major with a double focus in public relations and writing, she hopes to pursue a media career upon graduation in May of 2012. While attending Sonoma State, she has been an active leader for the campus in the Residential Life department in both the dorms and classroom life and was even invited to attend a national leadership conference (NACURH).
