Piercings, oh how I love them. I’ve a total of 16; 7 on one ear, 3 on the other, nose, eyebrow, industrial, navel, and well you guessed it, both nipples. I’ve always liked how they looked and the cute jewelry that came with it. These are no regular piercings though, these babies are a lot of work. Here’s a few things you should know before piercing yours!
1) One or Both?
I went with both, and i’d definitely say I recommend getting both at the same time because it’s like killing two birds with one stone. Some people only want to have one though, which is perfectly fine.
2) The Pain is Real
I think my pain tolerance is pretty high when it comes to needles, and these were my most painful ones yet. The pain while getting it pierced was probably about an 8/10. You don’t really know what to expect until you get the first one, so you are a bit more prepared for the second one. The pain the day after was definitely a 10/10. My nipples were super sore, it hurt to walk because of the movement, and bralettes were my new best friends. Sleeping was also a bit difficult but the pain did not last more than a few days.
3) High Maintenance
You need to clean these babies at least 3 times a day. SInce it is such a sensitive place to get pierced, you are more prone to infections. And cleaning them daily avoids the growth of crust (which is normal to a certain extent) !
4) Taking a Break
If you are currently hooking up with someone, nipple play is out the door for a while. Touching them too much can cause irritation and sometimes even infection. You might want to take a break from sex itself as well since the movement might cause irritation. Or the worst case scenario; you forget you have them and brush up against them too hard. Yikes! Be super careful!
5) The Right Kind of Jewelry
It’s always recommended you start off with a regular barbell at first. Then after it is healed (about 6 months) you can switch up your jewelry and either go with a hoop or just another decorative barbell. My piercer said he would change up my piercing anytime I was too scared to do it alone so that I didn’t hurt myself, so call up yours if you don’t want to change it on your own!
