Why You Should Start Your Own Podcast

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

Podcasts are becoming more and more popular. This is one bandwagon where it is actually benficial to jump on. You can make money, use your passion, and take some time to yourself. If that’s not convincing enough,  read the 5 other reasons I have for you to start a podcast.

1. It’s an outlet for your creative side

Being able to freely talk about things you’re passionate about is really fun. I find it hard sometimes to find a way to incorporate my passion into everyday life, and a podcast really helps with this. Podcasts are also really great because you can do it in your PJ’s.

2. They’re easy for people to listen to

A podcast is very easy to listen to when you’re working out, doing makeup or even showering. With such easy access, people will be able to listen to your words and pay attention to what you’re saying. Our generation loves to multi-task, and podcasts are perfect for multi-tasking.

3. What else are you doing with your life?

I’m going to be honest, we’re super busy. But, when we aren’t studying, we are probably watching a stupid show. A podcast would be much more productive use of your time. It’s also relatively easy to do; you can download an app to help you get it on major sites like Apple Podcast and Spotify.

4. You don’t have to dress up

I know it might be a dumb reason, but if you’re wanting to be an influencer or start a channel of some kind, you can do this in the comfort of your own home. If you’re anything like me, dressing up is very fun for specific occasions but no way do you want to dress up every day. A podcast allows you to never be seen but always be heard.

5. A chance to be real

Podcasts have the stereotype of being more real and less filtered. I think social media gives us a mask to wear when looking at everyone’s feed. Everything has a filter on it, and everyone seems perfect but with podcasts, people can be more authentic and be their real selves.

Podcasts are super fun. I encourage you that if you’re thinking about starting a podcast, to just do it! It doesn’t have to be perfect, just put one together and start publishing it! It’s better to put something out there and then make adjustments rather than wait for it to be perfect because, let’s be real, nothing will ever be perfect.
