Stuck in Dallas for Spring Break? We’ve got ideas…

Sunscreen, Mexico and drink specials are just a few of words that come to mind when college students hear the words spring break. 
 
With this week of freedom just around the corner, many students find themselves stuck in Dallas without any agenda. 
 
Although it is not a Cabo getaway, the Dallas-Fort Worth area offers unlimited opportunities to prevent students from getting restless while on break.  Thanks to an endless number of tasty restaurants, trendy boutiques, breathtaking outdoor attractions, exhilarating sporting events, concerts and festivities, it is simple to stay entertained in Dallas.  For those of you who want to do something a little out of the ordinary, here are some ideas that promise to bring some excitement to your week. 
 
Visit White Rock Lake

One of the most beautiful outdoor attractions in Dallas is the perfect place to spend a day.  White Rock Lake spans more than 1,015 acres and is over nine miles around.  With incredible views of downtown Dallas, it is a great place to stay active and take a jog or relax and have a picnic.  Checking out the spot some call the “crown gem of Dallas” is definite must during a Dallas spring break.
 
Attend a Sporting Event
 
If you have not had the chance to visit the American Airlines Center and cheer on your favorite Dallas sports teams, this week is the perfect opportunity.  There are plenty of games during the week of spring break to keep the sports fan busy.
March 10- Dallas Stars vs. Anaheim Ducks
March 13- Dallas Mavericks vs. Washington Wizards
March 15- Dallas Mavericks vs. Charlotte Bobcats
March 16- Dallas Stars vs. Chicago Blackhawks
March 17- Dallas Mavericks vs. San Antonio Spurs

Dallas welcomes some of best performing artists in the world and with a break from school spring break is the prime opportunity to let loose and go to a concert.
March 9- Red Hot Chili Peppers (American Airlines Center, 8:00 p.m.)
March 10- The Beach Boys (Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, 8:00 p.m.)
March 10- Randy Travis (Billy Bob’s Texas, 10:30 p.m.)
March 11- Boyz II Men (House of Blues, 8:00 p.m.)
 
Hit up the St. Patrick’s Day Parade
 
On March 17 at 11:00 a.m. head to Greenville Avenue and experience the parade that has become a signature event of the St. Patrick’s celebration.  With over one hundred floats and nearly one hundred thousand people in attendance, it is not just your average neighborhood parade.   The parade offers something for everyone’s liking and has been compared to a Dallas Mardi Gras celebration.  Who could pass that up?
 

Caroline Wright, a double major in Business Marketing and Communication Studies at Southern Methodist University, is thrilled to be part of the Her Campus Team. Although a St. Louis native, she has enjoyed becoming a true Texan in spirit over the past two years! She has been employed by a variety of companies including Kate Spade New York, NBC Universal Pictures, Brynn Bagot Public Relations, Rent the Runway, and Nordstrom.
