Staff Spotlight: Meet HCSMU Staff Writer Courtney Smith

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

Our writers spend their days writing about the many opportunities on campus, the nuances of college life, and some of the coolest people to meet here at SMU. Today, our team is excited to let our readers get to know more about one of our own, staff writer Courtney Smith!

HCSMU: What are you studying?

CS: Marketing with a Spanish minor and entrepreneurship concentration and I’m hoping to add an advertising minor!

HCSMU: What year are you?

CS: I’m a sophomore.

HCSMU: What do you do with Her Campus SMU?

CS: I write some of the articles each week, just look for the ones that are trying really hard to be funny.

HCSMU: What other organizations are you involved with (Greek life, volunteering, clubs, etc.)?

CS: I’m an Alpha Chi Omega and I’m on the club volleyball team!

HCSMU: What has been your favorite class at SMU? Why?

CS: Contemporary Moral Problems with Ken Daley. I think he is the funniest professor I’ve ever had and he drops the f-bomb more than anyone I know, but he makes such a serious class really interesting and fun. He also changed my opinions on some major issues through the arguments we studied.

HCSMU: What does your dream future look like?

CS: In my dream future I’m traveling a lot to new places like Asia and Africa, and doing something I really enjoy, probably with a startup or some kind of marketing firm. I’m probably volunteering at a non-profit and I also probably own like four dogs.

HCSMU: What has been your favorite adventure to date?

CS: I studied abroad in Madrid with some of my best friends and we took a weekend trip to San Sebastian by ourselves. We ate at a Michelline starred restaurant, went to the beaches, and contemplated not going back to Madrid for classes.

HCSMU: What’s the biggest thing on your bucket list right now?

CS: The biggest thing on my bucket list right now is to be happy with myself. College is hard and it’s easy to succumb to the pressure and be feel stressed out all the time. You have to learn to be happy with yourself before you can really enjoy everything that college, and particularly SMU, has to offer.
