I love Halloween. I love the parties and the costumes and the candy. But there is one thing that I don’t love, even in the slightest—absolutely everything exists to try and scare me.
There are creepy decorations, gory masks, scary movie trailers that play late at night when I’m just trying to watch cute puppies on Facebook… and now, this year has the extra special bonus of real life killer clowns wandering the streets! Apparently, on October 1, we all were transported into the world of “American Horror Story.”
Halloween can be a rough time for people like me who jump at literally anything, but that just makes it even more important to see the awesome parts of Halloween that aren’t related to being scared to death.
You get to dress up: There are about a billion different cute costume ideas in the world, but really only one day when you can wear them. Whether you go for funny or sexy, a couple’s costume or a solo showcase, I promise, when you’re dressing up with your friends, you’ll be having too much fun to be scared.
There are so many movies: Sometimes it’s easy to forget with all of the horror movies that get the spotlight in October that there are plenty of non-scary Halloween movies that you can enjoy. Revisit your childhood with classics like “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Hocus Pocus,” or “Halloweentown.” Or, take a look at some old horror movie classics like “Friday the 13th” or “Nightmare on Elm Street” which will have the heart of a horror movie, but with old school cheesiness that will have you laughing.
You can get crafty with pumpkins: Whether you’re someone who likes the traditional carving, or the new Pinterest trend of painting or glittering the gourds, Halloween is a really wonderful time to let your crafty side out in a very fun way.
One word—CANDY: Need I say more? Chocolate lovers and sour candy eaters alike can come together for a holiday that puts candy above all else.
And as an added tip… Never go to a costume store alone: something will jump out at you, guaranteed.
