How to Spend Time Between Classes Productively

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

While it may be tempting to use every moment of free time between classes to sit in your room and watch Netflix (I know I’m guilty), the moments you have between your classes can actually be some of the most productive moments in your day. So before you start on another binge session, take a second to think if you could be doing something better.

Get organized

15 minutes- It’s no secret that I’m in love with my planner and semester at a glance from the ALEC. Take a few minutes to write down all of your tests and assignments from your syllabus and save yourself the pain of remembering an assignment is due the next day, and you haven’t started.

Clean your room

15 minutes- Take a few minutes to straighten up your study space. Just being able to see the floor can have a huge effect on the work you get done!

Call home

15 minutes- Every few days I try to find a few minutes to call my mom. She appreciates getting to hear from me, and I like checking in. Take a few minutes to call your family back home- you’ll make their day, and they might make yours!

Go to tutoring

30 minutes- Do you have a paper coming up? Take a half hour of your day to visit the writing center and have a professor check over your work. It could get you a much higher grade, and that’s always worth the time!

Find a new place to study

30 minutes- We go to one of the most beautiful schools in America, so go take a few minutes to explore it and find your personal favorite spot to study. My personal favorites- Hughes Trigg commons and the Taubman Atrium.

Work out

1 hour- Head over to Dedman and actually work out like you keep saying you will. For double efficiency, bring a textbook and read while you use a machine!

Actually Study!

However long it takes- At the end of the day, college is about learning. So any chance you get to study is a chance you should take! Your GPA will thank you!
