Get to Know Your 2017 Homecoming Queen Candidates, Only One Will Wear the Crown

All information is taken from the candidates themselves, their LinkedIn pages, or from the responses of their Panhellenic delegate. They are not featured in any particular order, other than alphabetical.

Homecoming is finally here! The week of pomping, glitter, glue guns and spirit is upon us. This year we have nine women competing to be your Homecoming Queen. Karly Zrake, Alpha Chi Omega

Majors: Human Rights and Anthropology with a minor in Education.

Involvement: Administrative Student Director for Embrey Human Rights, Dedman College Scholar and Ambassadors, Golden Key Honor Society, Hyer Society, Mortar Board

Alpha Chi Involvement: VP Ritual and Fraternity Appreciation, and Sisterhood Chair

Fun Fact? This summer, she went cage diving with great white sharks in South Africa.

Elizabeth Orscheln, Chi Omega

Major: Finance:

Involvement: President of the Women's Lacrosse Team, SMU Student Senate Investment Committee, Boaz Commons Spirit and Competitions Coordinator, model for SMULook

Chi O Involvement: Panhellenic Delegate (2016)

Fun Fact? She studied abroad in Copenhagen last year!

Elise Redetzke, Delta Delta Delta

Major: Marketing and Art History, with a minor in Advertising

Involvement: Student Senate Endowment Committee (fall 2014-present), peer coach in Cox School

Tri Delta Involvement: VP Administration, Reference Chair (2016), Song Chair (2015) writing Tri Delta's Sing Song script.

Fun Fact? She was elected as "Youth Governor of Minnesota" in a mock state government program.

Allie Rutherford, Delta Gamma

Major: Psychology with a minor in Education Studies

Involvement: 2015 AARO Leader, Dedman College Scholar, SMU Ambassador, Vice President Internal Affairs for Not On My Campus, Distinction Researcher in the Family Research Center

Delta Gamma Involvement: Director of New Members for Delta Gamma (2016), and current Director of Recruitment Records for Delta Gamma

Fun Fact? She spent a month in high school volunteering at an elephant conservation center in Thailand.

Morgan DiGulio, Gamma Phi Beta

Major: English and Psychology, with a minor in French

Involvement: SMU Equestrian team, athlete and Community Service Chairwoman

Gamma Phi Involvement: House Manager (2016), Standards Chairwoman (2017), Homecoming Chairwoman (2017)

Fun Fact? "I wrote a feature length screenplay in three months, never having once written a word of it in or around a coffee shop, and it was terrible, but I'm so proud of it."

Taylor Walden, Kappa Alpha Theta

Major: Finance, with a minor in Law and Legal Reasoning

Involvement: SMU Ambassador, Alternative Asset Management Center Don Jackson Fellow, Delta Sigma Pi, BBA Scholar, University Honors Program

Theta Involvement: Chief Financial Officer of Kappa Alpha Theta

Fun Fact? She is a New Zealand certified ski instructor.

Alex Maday, Kappa Kappa Gamma

Major: Marketing with a minor in Advertising.

Involvement: BBA Marketing Association, Golden Key Honors Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Presidential Gold Service Award

Involvement: Kappa Kappa Gamma President (2017), Recording Secretary (2016)

Fun Fact? She has 5 extra bones in her body.

Joanna Fennessy, Pi Beta Phi

Major: Advertising

Invovlement: Current President of Ad Club, Research Assistant at Temerlin Advertising InstituteSMU Women's Lacrosse Team (2014-15), Hegi Career Development Ambassador (2014-16)

Pi Phi Invovlement: VP of Philanthropy for Pi Beta Phi (2016-17)

Fun Fact? She's Lived in Sydney, Australia and Tokyo, Japan!

Lauren Metzinger, Theta Tau

Major: Mechanical Engineering with a biomedical specialization.

Involvement: Society of Women Engineers, Lyle Ambassadors, member of Alpha Chi Omega, Panhellenic Delegate for Alpha Chi Omega (2017)

Theta Tau Involvement: Corresponding Secretary

Fun Fact? She has participated in Homecoming with three different organizations. She was Mustang11's float chair in 2014, a member of Alpha Chi's team in 2015 and 2016, and this year is Theta Tau's candidate.
