5 Ways to Spend Your Extra Flex Dollars

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

PSA: Flex does not carry over to the fall semester. So, if you still have some left, that means it is time to start spending. Don’t let the idea of wasting money deter you from studying, then acing those finals. (Unless you just need another reason to procrastinate, then, by all means, stress over wasting that money.) Here are the five best ways to blow your Flex dollars this week.

1. Treat your friends (or make friends, food brings people together)

Head to Hughes Trigg, with all of your friends, for every meal and splurge on some Chick-Fil-a, Subway, or Campisi’s. Heck, splurge on all three; it’s finals week you deserve it. If you feel like you have no friends, this is the prime opportunity to make some. Offer to pay for everyone’s food on your way over there and then again when you’re in line. You’ll have lots of new friends instantly; they may even want to eat with you again the next day.

2. Make like a millionaire at Mac’s Place

Stock up on everything at Mac’s. Keep in mind those all-nighters you’re about to pull and all the cravings you’ll start to experience around 3:30 a.m. Remember that buying stuff that won’t go bad can go home with you. Yay for processed food!

3. Don’t forget about the Market

If you’re planning on doing any grocery shopping this week, go to the Market in Hughes Trigg. It’s perfect for all your last minute needs and it’s in walking distance.

4. Hit Up The Pod

Even if you’re not a Meadows student, Hamon Library is worth checking out. While you’re there, stop by the Pod for some blueberry muffins, chips, and a drink. It’s often lost in the maze-like building, but the muffins are definitely worth the trip.

5. Splurge at Starbucks

There’s no doubt coffee is going to be vital this week. So, instead of stopping by Arnold or Umph, use your Flex at Café 100 or the Dedman Starbucks. Try a different drink every time you go in. Five-dollar coffees will definitely make a dent in your excess Flex dollars. Better yet, by all the Starbucks mugs, cups, and tumblers, because when else will you? Or, if you’re feeling generous, load all your flex onto a gift card or two and give them away as gifts, or gift yourself with one and use it all summer long. You’re welcome.

Happy spending!
