10 Under $10: Best off campus meals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

Picture this: you’re hungry, you’re sick of on-campus food, and all you can really afford to spend is the $10 bill in your wallet. Luckily, there are several options for food very close by that won’t break the bank.

Torchy’s: How lucky are we that there are such delicious tacos just a few minutes away from campus? It honestly doesn’t get much better. Whether you have a favorite taco or you want to try every new taco of the month, you can rest assured that your bank account won’t hate you if you want to experiment.

Grub Burger Bar: What’s a good burger if it isn’t accompanied by a great shake and some awesome sides? Honestly, if you wanted to skip the burger and spend the whole $10 on some milkshakes that actually have everything but the kitchen sink packed into them, no one here would judge you.

Raising Cane’s: The great Southern secret of the best chicken fingers in the country is right here at Cane’s. Get your chicken, fries, Texas toast and sweet tea and make sure that none of your friends try to steal your Cane’s sauce. If you bought the box, it’s yours, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Velvet Taco: These aren’t your typical tacos. After all, what typical taco place has Ahi Poke, Cuban Pig, and Falafel flavors? A weird, delicious, and all around $5 a taco? Honestly, what isn’t to love?

In-N-Out Burger: For the Californians feeling homesick or the Texans wanting to feel a little more L.A. there’s In-N-Out Burger. My suggestion is don’t be afraid to go a little wild and try ordering Animal Style from the Not-So-Secret Menu.

Pie Five: Your dreams of your own personal pizza you don’t have to share with anyone can all come true. Pie Five has all of your favorite ingredients that you can choose from for any combination you could possibly imagine. Your true pizza love is just a few dollars away.

Jimmy Johns: When in the throws of studying for the midterm worth 50 percent of your grade, it’s always a good idea to know what places are going to stay open as late as you could possibly need. Not much beats a cheap sandwich getting delivered to your room at 3 a.m.

Hopdoddy: A fancy and succulent burger for under $10 is practically too good to be true, yet here it is. With ingredients such as truffle aioli and Tillamook cheddar you can feel like you dropped onto the Food Network even with your pocket change.

La Madeleine: For those of us in the new dorms, La Madeleine is just a hop, skip, and jump away. And when you can get such good food with a side of delicious baked goods, there really isn’t reason not to get out of bed, walk across the street and pretend to be in France. Bonjour la bonne nourriture!

Chipotle: Is there even any doubt? Are you even in college if you don’t have a slight Chipotle addiction? Whether you’re a burrito or a bowl person, the average Chipotle meal isn’t going to cost more than $10—unless of course you buy the guacamole, but some things in life are just worth splurging on.
