Some people say that life is like a game of poker and that we are just supposed to play the hand of cards we are dealt. They say that we are supposed to accept the terms and conditions which are placed upon us by mere chance and make the best from what we are given. So we play the game in these constraints, and sometimes we even get pretty good at it. We fold when things are looking grim and raise the steaks when we think we might get lucky. We operate under a belief that good and bad things happen to us in cycles and that eventually we will reap the draw. Although this theory may sound appealing to some, we have to understand that it is flawed in its very design. Life is not a game. Life is a strict depiction of cause and effect events that we, ourselves, manipulate. We like to tell ourselves that karma exists, so as to assign blame for our shortcomings; we remind ourselves that it’s only a matter of time before the universe works in our favor. But picture a world where everyone was aware of the immense control they had on their lives. Imagine if everyone acknowledged that they are driving, and not simply along for the ride. There’s no shame in believing in something greater than yourself, but don’t let it take away the power which resides within you. You call the shots. You fail or succeed based on what you do. So go ahead and play the game, but know that you are not limited to anything by chance.
