How to Give Your Mom the Best Mother’s Day Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

For the first project, take a rectangular piece of wood and two cabinet handles. You’ll need to drill the cabinet handles to create the trays handles. Now, take acrylic paint and let your children draw their own masterpieces for mom. This will give the perfect effect for breakfast in bed, and will be a piece of memorabilia for years to come.

For Mom’s breakfast in bed, we’ll be cooking two bite size options. The first is bacon cheddar spinach quiche.

Preparation time for this recipe is 33 minutes.

Ingredients:

•   1 sheet thawed puff pastry

•   4 large eggs- divided use

•   1 cup + 2 tbsp half & half – divided

•   1 cup fresh chopped spinach

•   1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

•   ⅓ cup bacon bits

•   1 tbsp minced onions

•   3 tsp garlic powder

•   salt / pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Then unfold puff pastry & cut into 9 squares. Gently stretch each square & place in the bottom of un-greased muffin tin wells. Whisk together 3 of the eggs, 1 cup half & half along with spinach, cheese, bacon, onions & seasonings. Then, ladle into your puff pastry. In a separate bowl whisk together remaining egg & half & half, then brush onto exposed puff pastry. Bake for 18-23 minutes.

The next bite size treat is something sweet. We are making mini pancakes.

Start with pancake mix and focus on making small consistent pancakes. Because of their size, they will cook faster, so stay close to the stove while preparing these. Use kabob sticks and layer your garnishing. This example features strawberries, bananas, and Nutella. However, your creation can be creative, using other fruit or creating dipping sauces for the sticks.

For the rest of the day, have a Mom-Osa bar set up.  Set out orange juice and a sparkling wine or champagne. To customize this recipe, consider substituting the orange juice with grapefruit juice or apple cider. Give your mother the option of different garnishing like blackberries, strawberries, lemon, sugar, or cinnamon.

As much as it’s Mother’s Day, it’s mother’s night too. Gift your mom a nice bottle of wine for the evening, but let the wrapping be decorative. Purchase a box of Ferror Rochers and glue them around the outside of the bottle. The at the top, paste strips of green paper on the neck of the bottle. Cover up the bottom of the strips with brown or white scrap fabric.
